WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The University of Dayton women's basketball team battled Virginia Tech in a hard fought game in the first game for UD at the West Palm Beach Invitational.

The Flyers (4-6) were not able to hand the Hokies (11-0) their first loss of the season.

3rd quarter –  Dayton was outscored 20-12 in the third quarter as Virginia Tech pulled away from the Flyers.

GAME BREAKDOWN
  1st Quarter: Dayton 15, Virginia Tech 17
- Dayton and Virginia Tech went back and forth over the first three and half minutes of the game, trading buckets as the Hokies led 9-8.
- At the 5:42 mark, redshirt sophomore Araion Bradshaw drilled a three to put Dayton up 11-9.
- By the media break, Dayton held a four-point lead.
- Virginia Tech responded and took the lead back, 14-13 in final few minutes of the first quarter.
- Dayton suffered from a four minute scoring drought during that stretch as well.
- Senior Lauren Cannatelli led UD with six points in the quarter.

2nd Quarter: Dayton 29, Virginia Tech 32
- The second quarter started similar to the first with both teams trading baskets.
- At the 7:10 mark, a nice wrap-around pass from senior Tiaera Phillips to redshirt junior Julia Chandler put UD back on top 22-21.
- Halfway through the quarter, the Hokies held a 26-24 lead over the Flyers.
- Virginia Tech was up four heading into the final two minutes of the half.
- Dayton made its first eight free throws in the game, all from Cannatelli.
- The Flyers shot 29 percent in the first half while the Hokies shot 43.3 percent.

3rd Quarter: Dayton 41, Virginia Tech 52
- Virginia Tech jumped out to a 41-34 advantage in the first two minutes of the third.
- A Jayla Scaife layup closed the gap to four by the six minute mark.
- At the media break, the Flyers faced a 44-37 deficit.
- Virginia Tech came out of the timeout and pushed its advantage to double digits.
- Dayton answered though and closed the gap to seven at 48-41 with 1:31 to play.
- The Hokies were able to get it back to double figures before the end of the quarter.

4th Quarter: Dayton 57, Virginia Tech 69
- Va. Tech extended the margin to 14 in the first minute of the fourth before Cannatelli hit a pair of free throws.
- The Hokies continued to push the tempo and caused problems for the Flyers defensively.
- Dayton was forced to call a timeout, trailing 67-48 with 6:06 to play.
- Cannatelli then scored five quick points, forcing Virginia Tech to call a timeout.
- The Hokies had led by as much as 19, but with 4:18 to play, the margin was 12 with the Flyers clawing their way back.
- Virginia Tech suffered from a nearly four minute scoring drought of its own leading into the final two minutes.
- Dayton was unable to catch Virginia Tech and suffered the loss.
