Men's Basketball Travels to No. 8 Auburn For First Road Test Of 2018-19

This Will Be UD's First Game Road Game At A Top Team Team In 12 Years

DAYTON -- The University of Dayton Flyers play their first true road game Saturday, Dec. 8 when they travel to Auburn, Alabama to visit 8th-ranked Auburn.  Game time is 8:30 p.m. ET.  Dayton is 5-3 this season, with the losses to No. 4 Virginia, Oklahoma and No. 25 Mississippi State. 

The game will be carried by WHIO Radio, and televised by the SEC Network. Streaming audio, streaming video and stats will be available at DaytonFlyers.com.

THE NEARLY-TRANSFORMED UD ARENA 
The University of Dayton is past the halfway point of a $72 million renovation of its Arena. The transformation of University of Dayton Arena will occur in three phases – from 2017 to 2019.
Phase II included new entrances on three of the four sides, a new box office, new seats in the 300 and 400 levels on the east side and a new and expanded concourse on the east side.

•    Redshirt freshman forward Obi Toppin came off the bench in UD's 98-59 win over Detroit Mercy to set a UD record with eight dunks in the game.  Toppin had the second double-double of his career with 22 points and 11 rebounds in 25 minutes.
•    Dayton had a team-record 12 dunks as well, besting the old record by three.
•    Saturday's Auburn game will be the first time the Flyers played at a Top Ten team since Dec. 31, 2006, when the Flyers played at No. 2 North Carolina.  UNC won 81-51.
•    Saturday's game will be UD's third game against a ranked opponent in the last five.  That has not happened for the Red & Blue since February of 2003.
•    Jalen Crutcher was Dayton's top performer at the Battle4Atlantis, reaching double figures all three games, and averaging 15.0 points and 5.2 assists per contest.  UD was fourth at B4A.
•    Crutcher scored 20 in the Butler win, and has 88 points in his last six games.  He scored 18 in the first two games of the season.  He has made 20 of 41 3-pt. FG (.488) after missing his first six three-pointers of the season.
•    Dayton shot .543 (25-46) in the Virginia game, the highest FG% against UVa. in the last two seasons.  That was in the Battle4Atlantis semifinals.  Virginia won the tournament.
•    After missing the first two games of the year with a hand injury, Josh Cunningham led UD with 20 points (9-10 FG) and eight rebounds in his 2018-19 debut vs, Purdue Fort Wayne.
•    Cunningham did not practice for four days (Nov. 24-28) due to food poisoning, but came off the bench for 11 points and five rebounds in 25 minutes vs. No. 25 Mississippi State.
•    Ryan Mikesell currently averages 13.0 ppg, at home, and 4.3 away from UD Arena.


UP NEXT 
•    After exam week, UD will play Tulsa in the Basketball Hall of Fame Holiday Classic on Sunday, Dec. 16.  That is part of a tripleheader at Mohegan Sun Casino.  Tip time is 3:30 p.m. ET.
•    Dayton will then return home for four straight home games, beginning with Western Michigan on Dec. 19.
