#UDSB Splits Final Day Of Miami Invitational

Dayton Defeats Robert Morris, Falls To Host Miami

OXFORD, Ohio - The University of Dayton softball team splits its last two games of the Miami (Ohio) Invitational Sunday, defeating Robert Morris, 10-1 (5), and falling to host Miami, 13-5 (5).

Dayton is now 8-14 on the season while Robert Morris finished the weekend 6-20 and Miami improved to an even 11-11 on the year.

SCORING BREAKDOWN
Game One: Dayton 10, Robert Morris 1 (5)
Dayton's first batter, junior Kyle Davidson, reached on a Robert Morris fielding error and was singled in by senior Kailee Budicin. The bases were loaded when sophomore Ellie Ziegler reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Budicin, and freshman Hannah Heraty scurried home during a double steal attempt to give UD a quick 3-0 lead. The Flyer offense exploded for seven runs in the third to effectively put the game out of reach. Tassi collected three RBI on her bases-loaded double to highlight the frame. Robert Morris got one run back in the fourth but with its nine-run lead, Dayton took the win after five innings.

Game Two: Miami 13, Dayton 5 (5)
Dayton used two singles and a walk to strike first in the nightcap as junior Kayla Haberstich crossed home on a single from Tassi. Miami also scored one in the first and added two more in the third to go up 3-1 after three complete. The Flyers got one back in the fourth when Haberstich singled in Davidson but the RedHawks answered with five in the bottom of the frame. Dayton rallied in the top of the fifth to stay in the game, scoring three runs to cut the Miami lead to 8-5. The RedHawks scored all five of its fifth-inning runs with two outs on the board, including Lee's game-winning single.

Losing pitcher: Jessica Weaver (2-5)

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • .600 = Lisa Tassi went 3-for-5 at the plate Sunday for the Flyers. She scored two runs and tallied four RBI while recording nine putouts and three assists.
  • 4 = Four Flyers posted multiple hits over Dayton's last two games of the Miami Invitational
  • 1 = Freshman Briley Sidor recorded her first career pitching strikeout in her first outing in the circle. She worked one complete inning against Miami.

Dayton will head to Athens, Ohio, on Wednesday to take on Ohio. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. at the Bobcats' Ohio Softball Field.
