SCOUTING RHODE ISLAND
Rhode Island hosts Dayton with a 7-13 record on the season and sitting in 13th in the league standings with a 2-6 record this year. The Rams are currently on a four-game losing skid and are 3-7 at home this season.
Head coach Daynia La-Force is in her fifth season in charge of the Rams. She has a young squad this year with just two seniors.
URI is averaging just 61.0 points per game and facing a -8.6 scoring deficit. The Rams shoot 39.1 percent from the field, 30.4 percent from behind the arc, and 65 percent from the charity stripe. Rhode Island also has to overcome negative rebounding and turnover margins.
Leading the Rams is Elemy Colome, who averages 14.6 points and 4.3 rebounds per game, Nicole Jorgensen, who adds 12.4 points and 7.2 boards each contest, and Davida Dale, who chips in 10.6 points and 6.1 rebounds.
LAST TIME OUT
Dayton played its second straight overtime game and came out on top 72-65 over Saint Joseph's last Sunday. The Flyers struggled shooting from the floor, but thanks to a 26-point and 22-for-22 free throw performance from
Lauren Cannatelli, UD was victorious.
Rhode Island suffered a 84-68 defeat at home to St. Bonaventure Wednesday despite outscoring the Bonnies in the fourth quarter. Elemy Colome had 26 points to lead URI.
THE SERIES
Dayton and Rhode Island have met 27 times previously with the Flyers winning 23 times and the Rams winning just four. UD has now won 15 in a row in the series, including last year's meeting on Jan. 4 at home with a record 116-58 victory.
STATISTICAL RANKINGS
The Flyers rank fourth in the nation in defensive rebounds per game and eighth in three point field goal percentage defense. The Flyers also lead the A-10 in rebounds per game and rank second in fewest turnovers, field goal percentage defense, and scoring margin.
ANOTHER RECORD SETTING NIGHT FOR CANNATELLI
Senior
Lauren Cannatelli was a perfect 22-for-22 from the free throw line in the win over Saint Joseph's on Jan. 27. That mark was second all time in Division I history, the top performance in the NCAA this season, and broke numerous Dayton records for free throws made, attempted, and highest percentage. Add those to her other records for most three's made in a game, made in a season, and attempted in a career.
FLYERS IN REGULAR SEASON LEAGUE PLAY
Dayton has won 94 of its last 115 regular season Atlantic 10 games (.817), a streak that dates back to a 97-46 win over Rhode Island on Jan. 7, 2012, and includes a perfect 14-0 mark in conference play during the 2012-13 season.
COUNTDOWN FOR CANNATELLI'S CAREER MARK
Senior
Lauren Cannatelli is just 10 made three pointers shy of setting a new school record for made three pointers in a career. Already holding the single game, single season, and career three pointers attempted, Cannatelli will be looking to sweep the three point records in Dayton history. With 240 three's, the Cincinnati native would pass former Flyers
Andrea Hoover (2011-15)
THREE POINTS OF EXCELLENCE
Dayton has hit at least one three-point shot in 555 consecutive games dating back to Jan. 2, 2001, the longest streak in the Atlantic 10 Conference and one of the top streaks in the nation. The Flyers made a program-record 15 three-point field goals against Buffalo in the Connecticut World Vision Classic on Nov. 25, 2011. Dayton tied the record with 15 vs. Wright State on Nov. 28, 2012.
70'S THE MAGIC NUMBER
Since the 2009-10 season, Dayton is 154-18 (.895) when scoring 70 or more points, including 11-1 in 2016-17. During the 2010-11, 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons, the Flyers only lost one game per season when scoring at least 70 points, and dropped only two games in 2009-10 when reaching that mark.
