DAYTON –The University of Dayton women's basketball team took over late to beat Ashland 77-67.
 
This was the Flyers' first and only exhibition before opening the season on Tuesday.

GAME BREAKDOWN
1^ST Quarter: Dayton 21, Ashland 12

• Dayton held an early 10-8 lead at the first media timeout with eight points coming from senior Jayla Scaife.
• The Flyers ended the quarter on a 16-5 run to take a 21-12 lead at the end of the first. 
• Dayton had five players score in the first quarter and forced nine turnovers.

 
2^nd Quarter: Dayton 33, Ashland 27

• After Dayton extended the lead to 10, Ashland went on a 10-2 run to cut the lead back to 29-27, forcing a Flyer timeout.
• UD went 1-of-11 shooting during that stretch with four turnovers.
• Redshirt senior Shakeela Fowler scored four points in a row in the last minute of the first half to end the run.
• Fowler led the Flyers with 10 points in the half.

 
3^rd Quarter: Dayton 53, Ashland 54

• Ashland went on a 6-0 run in the middle of the third quarter to cut the lead down to just one point, 39-38. 
• After trading baskets, the Eagles hit a three to take their first lead since the first quarter with 3:43 left.  
• Redshirt junior Araion Bradshaw converted a three-point play to give the Flyers a 53-51 lead with just over two seconds left in the quarter.
• Ashland hit a three-point shot from near the logo to take a 54-53 lead entering the fourth quarter.

 
4^th Quarter: Dayton 77, Ashland 67

• Scaife opened the fourth quarter with three straight three-pointers to give Dayton a 62-54 lead.
• The Flyers started to shoot well making 7-of-10 from the field down the stretch.
• Ashland stayed in the game making 5-of-6 shots, but were unable to get a stop.
• Scaife led the team with 28 points including 14 points in the fourth quarter.

 
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
28 - Jayla Scaife scored 28 points including 14 in the fourth quarter which was more than all of Ashland would manage in the fourth.
23 - The Flyers forced 23 turnovers in the game.
