DAYTON - The University of Dayton women's basketball team continues its road stretch this Thursday, Feb. 14 at 6 p.m. at VCU in Richmond, Va.
SCOUTING THE FLYERS
Dayton is 12-8 overall this season and 7-3 in Atlantic 10 play. The Flyers sit in fourth place in the league standings and are 2-7 away from home this year.
Head coach
Shauna Green is the reigning A-10 Coach of the Year and is in her third season at the helm of the Flyers. With a 57-25 record at Dayton and three conference titles, expectations are high for the program.
As a team, the Flyers are scoring 66.3 points per game and holding opponents to 59.4 points each contest. Dayton is shooting 37.3 percent from the field, 31.5 percent from three point range, and 69.4 percent from the free throw line. UD also benefits from a +4.1 rebounding margin.
Dayton is led by junior
Jayla Scaife with 14.8 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. Senior
Lauren Cannatelli is chipping in 13.0 points per game and shooting 89.2 percent in free throws.
SCOUTING VCU
VCU hosts Dayton with an 18-6 record on the season, a 10-1 conference mark, and sits alone in first place in the Atlantic 10 standings. The Rams have won five in a row and are 10-1 at home this year.
Head coach Beth O'Boyle is in her fourth season at VCU with a career record of 173-150 in 11 total years as a head coach.
VCU is outscoring opponents by a +11.6 margin, holding opposing teams to 48.9 points per game. The Rams shoot 41.3 percent from the floor, 31.2 percent from behind the arc, and 68.6 percent from the charity stripe. They also have a +4.0 rebounding margin.
Leading the Rams is Tera Reed with 12.7 points while shooting 40 percent from three. Taya Robinson is chipping in 9.4 points and 4.5 rebounds per game.
LAST TIME OUT
Dayton ended its three-game winning streak with an 85-57 loss at Duquesne Sunday. The Flyers were outscored 30-10 in the third quarter and gave up the most points in Coach Green's tenure.
VCU won its fifth game in a row with a 58-37 victory at home against Richmond Saturday. The Rams held the Spiders to just 10 points in the second half after leading by just two at halftime. Madson Hattix-Covington led VCU off the bench with 13 points.
THE SERIES
Dayton and VCU have played eight times previously with the Flyers winning seven of the contests. The Flyers have won three in a row including last year's meeting on Feb. 4 in Dayton, 74-64.
STATISTICAL RANKINGS
The Flyers rank fourth in the nation in defensive rebounds per game and eighth in three point field goal defense. Dayton also leads the A-10 in rebounds per game as well. Individually,
Lauren Cannatelli leads the A-10 in free throw percentage.
