The Flyers Look To Improve On Their Third-Place A-10 Standing

DAYTON - The University of Dayton women's basketball team heads back out on the road to take on George Mason Sunday, Feb. 24 at 2 p.m. at Eaglebank Arena in Fairfax, Va.

SCOUTING THE FLYERS
Dayton enters the weekend with a 14-10 record overall and a 9-4 Atlantic 10 mark, sitting in a tie for third place in the league. The Flyers have won two games in a row, but are 2-8 away from home this season.

Head coach Shauna Green is the reigning A-10 Coach of the Year and is in her third season at the helm of the Flyers. With a 59-26 record at Dayton and three conference titles, expectations are high for the program.

As a team, the Flyers are scoring 66.6 points per game and holding opponents to 59.8 points each contest. Dayton is shooting 37.6 percent overall, 31.9 percent from three, and 71 percent from the free throw line. The Flyers benefit from a +2.8 rebounding margin and lead the league in that category.

Dayton is led by junior Jayla Scaife, who is averaging 15.3 points and 7.7 rebounds per game, both top five in the A-10. Senior Lauren Cannatelli is chipping in 13.5 points per game as well.

SCOUTING GEORGE MASON
George Mason is 13-12 on the year and 5-7 in conference play. The Patriots are 8-4 at home and 2-3 in the last five games.

Head coach Nyla Milleson is in her sixth season at GMU after previous head coaching stints at Missouri State and Drury.

George Mason is scoring 63.9 points per game and giving up 63.9 to opposing teams. The Patriots are shooting 39.5 percent from the floor, 30 percent from behind the arc, and 66.5 percent from the charity stripe. GMU is outrebounding teams by a +3.8 maring, but has a -1.7 turnover margin.

The Patriots are led by a preseason first team all-conference player in Nicole Cardano-Hillary, who leads the A-10 with 20.4 points per game. Jacy Bolton is contributing 10.0 points and 8.6 rebounds per game as well.

LAST TIME OUT
Dayton overcame a 12-point fourth quarter deficit to earn an 83-69 victory in overtime over Davidson at home Wednesday. Cannatelli had a game-high 22 points while Scaife had 20 points.

George Mason suffered a 62-38 defeat home at the hands of VCU on Sunday. The Patriots were unable to score more than 11 points in a single quarter including six points in the second. Nicole Cardano-Hillary had a team high 12 points.

THE SERIES
Dayton and George Mason have played seven times previously with the Flyers dominating the series, 6-1. UD has won two in a row and last defeated the Patriots at home on Feb. 21, 2018, 71-66.

STATISTICAL RANKINGS
The Flyers rank sixth nationally in defensive rebounds per game and seventh in three point field goal percentage defense. UD also leads the A-10 in rebounds per game and ranks second in numerous categories as well. Individually, Lauren Cannatelli leads the league in free throw percentage and is third in three point percentage.

FLYERS IN REGULAR SEASON LEAGUE PLAY
Dayton has won 98 of its last 121 regular season Atlantic 10 games (.817), a streak that dates back to a 97-46 win over Rhode Island on Jan. 7, 2012, and includes a perfect 14-0 mark in conference play during the 2012-13 season.

PRESEASON POLL
Dayton was picked to finish second in the Atlantic 10 preseason poll behind conference favorites Duquesne. With two first-place votes and 183 points, the Flyers were picked ahead of Fordham, George Washington, and Saint Joseph's.

PRESEASON HONORS
The Atlantic 10 released its preseason all-conference teams and recognized a pair of Flyers as junior Jayla Scaife was named First Team All-Conference as well as All-Defensive Team while senior Lauren Cannatelli was named Second Team All-Conference.

THREE POINTS OF EXCELLENCE
Dayton has hit at least one three-point shot in 561 consecutive games dating back to Jan. 2, 2001, the longest streak in the Atlantic 10 Conference and one of the top streaks in the nation. The Flyers made a program-record 15 three-point field goals against Buffalo in the Connecticut World Vision Classic on Nov. 25, 2011. Dayton tied the record with 15 vs. Wright State on Nov. 28, 2012.
