The Flyers Are Third In The Atlantic 10 Standings

DAYTON - The University of Dayton women's basketball team returns home to host Richmond Wednesday, Feb. 6 at 7 p.m. at UD Arena.

SCOUTING THE FLYERS
Dayton is 11-8 on the season and 6-2 in Atlantic 10 play, sitting in third place in the conference standings. The Flyers are 8-1 at home this season and have not lost at UD arena since Nov. 17.

Head coach Shauna Green is the reigning A-10 Coach of the Year and is in her third season at the helm of the Flyers. With a 56-24 record at Dayton and three conference titles, expectations are high for the program.

As a team, the Flyers are scoring 66.5 points per game and boast a +7.9 scoring margin. Dayton shoots 37.5 percent overall, 32 percent from three point range, and 68 percent from the free throw line. UD does benefit from a +4.1 rebounding margin after leading the A-10 in rebounding.

Dayton is led by junior Jayla Scaife with 15.3 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. Senior Lauren Cannatelli is chipping in 12.9 points and shooting 89.9 percent from the free throw line while redshirt junior Shakeela Fowler is adding 9.1 points off the bench.

SCOUTING RICHMOND
Richmond comes to Dayton with a 6-15 record on the season and a 3-5 A-10 mark, but is currently riding a three-game winning streak. The Spiders are 1-8 on the road this year and looking to improve on its 11th place standing in the A-10.

Head coach Michael Shafer is in his 14th season in charge of the Spiders, with a 220-208 record overall. He ranks first all-time in Richmond history in career wins.

Richmond averages just 53.4 points per game and is giving up 66.3 points to opposing teams. The Spiders are shooting 33.2 percent from the floor, 27.2 percent from behind the arc, and 66.7 percent from the charity stripe. UR has a +1.3 turnover margin, but is being outrebounded by a -7.6 margin.

Leading the Spiders is Alex Parson, who is recording 10.9 points and 3.5 rebounds per game. Jaide Hinds-Clarke is contributing 9.9 points and 5.9 rebounds to go with 1.6 blocks per game.

LAST TIME OUT
Dayton went to Rhode Island and earned a 74-62 victory over the Rams. The Flyers jumped out to a 22-12 lead in the first quarter and never looked back, leading by as much as 21. Lauren Cannatelli had a game-high 24 points and hit five three pointers.

Richmond defended its home court with a 62-58 win over Massachusetts Sunday. Daijia Ruffin and Jaide Hinds-Clarke both had 15 points in the game while the latter added 11 rebounds.

THE SERIES
Dayton and Richmond have played 24 times previously with the Flyers winning 14 times and the Spiders winning 10 times. Dayton has won the last 11 meetings, including the last meeting in the A-10 Quarterfinals March 2, 67-58.

STATISTICAL RANKINGS
The Flyers rank fourth in the nation in defensive rebounds per game and sixth in field goal percentage defense. UD also leads the A-10 in rebounding margin and ranks second in scoring margin. Cannatelli leads the league in free throw percentage as well.

ANOTHER RECORD SETTING NIGHT FOR CANNATELLI
Senior Lauren Cannatelli was a perfect 22-for-22 from the free throw line in the win over Saint Joseph's on Jan. 27. That mark was second all time in Division I history, the top performance in the NCAA this season, and broke numerous Dayton records for free throws made, attempted, and highest percentage. Add those to her other records for most three's made in a game, made in a season, and attempted in a career.

GREEN NAMED 2018 A-10 COACH OF THE YEAR
Head coach Shauna Green was named A-10 Coach of the Year in just her second year in charge. She guided the Flyers to historic seasons already and has a .746 winning percentage in 60 games.

FLYERS IN REGULAR SEASON LEAGUE PLAY
Dayton has won 95 of its last 116 regular season Atlantic 10 games (.817), a streak that dates back to a 97-46 win over Rhode Island on Jan. 7, 2012, and includes a perfect 14-0 mark in conference play during the 2012-13 season.

COUNTDOWN FOR CANNATELLI'S CAREER MARK
Senior Lauren Cannatelli is just five made three pointers shy of setting a new school record for made three pointers in a career. Already holding the single game, single season, and career three pointers attempted, Cannatelli will be looking to sweep the three point records in Dayton history. With 240 three's, the Cincinnati native would pass former Flyers Andrea Hoover (2011-15)

THREE POINTS OF EXCELLENCE
Dayton has hit at least one three-point shot in 556 consecutive games dating back to Jan. 2, 2001, the longest streak in the Atlantic 10 Conference and one of the top streaks in the nation. The Flyers made a program-record 15 three-point field goals against Buffalo in the Connecticut World Vision Classic on Nov. 25, 2011. Dayton tied the record with 15 vs. Wright State on Nov. 28, 2012.

WE'VE GOT AN AUDIENCE
On Dec. 9, 2017, the Flyers played in front of 9,007 fans at UD Arena while hosting Toledo. The season-best crowd was due to the overwhelming success of UD's annual School Day game, a chance for local school-aged children to take a field trip with the Flyers. With a home attendance average of 2,605, Dayton ranked 48th out of 349 DI programs. This year's School Day game against Colgate in the season opener had 8,811 fans in attendance.

UP NEXT
Dayton heads on the road to Duquesne, the site of the 2019 Atlantic 10 Tournament, for a showdown with the Dukes Sunday, Feb. 10 at 2 p.m.
