Men’s Basketball Cruises Past Fordham In 70-56 Home Win

Trey Landers Matches Season-High 18 Points

DAYTON – The No. 7 University of Dayton men's basketball team extended its winning streak to 11 games with a 70-56 home victory over Fordham Saturday. The Flyers remain undefeated in Atlantic 10 Conference play this season, along with remaining undefeated at UD Arena.

Dayton improved to 9-0 in conference and 20-2 overall. Fordham fell to 1-8 in conference and 7-14 overall.
 
The Flyers were led by Obi Toppin and Trey Landers -- Toppin finished with 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting and six rebounds. Landers had 18 points on 6-of-8 shooting, eight rebounds and two assists. Rodney Chatman also scored in double-digits with 10 points.
 
GAME BREAKDOWN
1st Half: Dayton 36, Fordham 17
• The Flyers started the game by going on a 7-2 run; Obi Toppin had five of the points.
• Following a media timeout Dayton hit back-to-back three-pointers by Trey Landers and Rodney Chatman to take a 13-4 lead.
• The Flyers kept the pressure on Fordham, allowing Jhery Matos and Ibi Watson to also connect from beyond the arc and take an 11-point lead.
• Starting at the 5:25 mark, Dayton went on an 8-0 run that lasted until the 2:10 mark; Dayton led 34-15.
• The Flyers defense only allowed the Rams to score two points to finish the half.
• Landers led the Flyers during the half with 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting and five rebounds.
• Dayton outrebounded Fordham 23-12, largely due to Ryan Mikesell's six rebounds.
• The Flyers assisted on 12-of-13 made field goals during the half. 
• Dayton shot 44.8% (13-of-29) from the field while holding Fordham to 30.8% overall.
• The Flyers held the lead for 17:42 of the half; Their largest lead was 21 points that came at the 2:17 mark.
• This was the Rams' lowest scoring half of the 2019-20 season. 
 
2nd Half: Dayton 70, Fordham 56
• The Flyers started the half with a three-pointer from Jalen Crutcher that started a 7-5 run.
• Fordham made three buckets from beyond the arc to go on a 9-0 run to cut Dayton's lead to 13 points.
• Dayton answered with a 9-2 run to extend the lead back to 56-36; The run was highlighted with a slam by Jordy Tshimanga.
• Fordham then went on a 12-4 run to cut Dayton's lead to 12 points with 3:53 left to play in the game.
• Toppin led the Flyers in the half with 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting.
• The Flyers' bench outscored Fordham 11-5.
• Dayton shot 45.5% from the field during the half; Fordham shot 53.8%.
• Chatman led the Flyers with four rebounds in the half.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Obi Toppin finished with 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting and six rebounds.
Trey Landers tied his season-high 18 points on 6-of-8 shooting.
• The Flyers shot 45% from the field during the game while holding the Rams to 42%.
• Dayton assisted on 21-of-23 made field goals.
• The Flyers outrebounded Fordham 35-26; Landers led the Flyers with eight rebounds.
• Eight different Flyers scored during the game.
• Dayton Dayton held the lead for 37:42 of the game; Fordham held the lead for 18 seconds near the start of the game.
• This was the least amount of points that the Flyers have allowed this season.
• The Flyers are 20-2 for the first time since 2008-09, have won 11 games in a row for the first time since they won 13 in 2007-08, and are 9-0 in the A-10 for the first time since they were 9-0 in 2003-04.
