DAYTON - The University of Dayton women's basketball team heads back out on the road to take on George Mason Friday, Jan. 8 at 6 p.m. at Eaglebank Arena.
SCOUTING THE FLYERS
Dayton is 3-1 on the year and 2-0 in Atlantic 10 play having defeated St. Bonaventure and Duquesne last week.
Head coach
Shauna Green is in her fifth season in charge of the Flyers and was named Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year last season, her second time at UD.
As a team, the Flyers are averaging 66.2 points per game and holding opponents to just 57.2 points each outing. Dayton is shooting 41.2 percent overall, 31.3 percent from three point range, and 66.7 percent from the free throw line. UD also benefits from a +6.3 rebounding margin as well.

Erin Whalen with 18.3 points and 5.0 rebounds per game while reigning A-10 Rookie of the Week
Makira Cook is adding 6.8 points and shooting 50 percenty from the field as well.
SCOUTING GEORGE MASON
George Mason hosts Dayton with a 3-6 record on the season and 0-2 A-10 mark. The Patriots have yet to win a game on the road with all three wins coming at Eaglebank Arena.
Head coach Nyla Milleson is in her eighth season at George Mason and led the Patriots to the WNIT tournament in 2017-18 with a 24-10 record.
This year, the Patriots are scoring 56.8 points per game and giving up 63.9 points to opponents. GMU is shooting 31.3 percent from the field, 26.3 percent from behind the arc, and 72.6 percent from the charity stripe. The Patriots have to overcome a -1.7 turnover margin, but is outrebouding opposing teams by +3.6.
Leading the Patriots is Marika Korpinen with 12.3 points and 6.2 rebounds each outing. Daijah Jefferson is chipping in 8.9 points and 8.7 boards per game as well.
LAST TIME OUT
Dayton earned a 64-48 victory over Duquesne Sunday at home on national tv. The Flyers held the Dukes to 25.5 percent from the field with double-digit scoring games from
Erin Whalen and
Araion Bradshaw. 11 different Flyers scored in the game.
George Mason dropped its second game in a row with a 61-57 loss at Davidson Sunday. The Patriots struggled offensively in the first half and were unable to overcome the deficit. Marika Korpinen had a game-high 21 points for GMU.
THE SERIES
Dayton and George Mason have played nine times previously with the Flyers winning seven of those matchups. Last season, the Flyers won at home in a close one, 59-55. The last three meetings have been decided by five points or fewer.
STATISTICAL RANKINGS
This season the Flyers rank 21st in the nation in blocked shots per game and 31st in field goal percentage defense. Individually,
Tenin Magassa ranks 17th in the country in blocked shots.
COOK NAMED A-10 ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Dayton freshman
Makira Cook was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week on Jan. 4 after averaging 11.0 points and shooting 61.5 percent from the field. She highlighted the week with an 18-point performance against St. Bonaventure.
PRESEASON POLL
Dayton was picked to finish second in the Atlantic 10 preseason poll behind conference favorites VCU and ahead of Saint Louis, Davidson, Duquesne, and Fordham. The Flyers received two first-place votes.
PRESEASON HONORS
The Atlantic 10 released its preseason all-conference teams and recognized a trio of Flyers. Redshirt senior
Erin Whalen earned First Team honors while fellow redshirt senior
Araion Bradshaw was named Third Team and All-Defensive Team. Junior
Kyla Whitehead joined Bradshaw on the Third Team as well.
SHORTENED NON-CONFERENCE PLAY
The Flyers only had two non-conference games and no exhibition contests due to COVID concerns. Dayton opened the season at Morehead State on Nov. 25Â with a victory before dropping the home opener to Akron on Dec. 6.
BRADSHAW HELPS START ATHLETES DRIVING CHANGE
Redshirt senior
Araion Bradshaw was one of a few Atlantic 10 women's basketball players to start Athletes Driving Change, a minority female, student-run organization dedicated to racial and social injustice on campuses in the A-10. Their mission is to create change through education, action, and service. Bradshaw also serves on the A-10 Commission on Racial Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.
FLYERS SWEEP A-10 TITLES
Last season the Flyers won both the regular season and tournament titles in the Atlantic 10 for the second time in program history, both in Coach Green's tenure. UD earned the No. 1 seed in the A-10 Tournament and an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament.
COACH GREEN NAMED A-10 COACH OF THE YEAR

Shauna Green was named 2020 A-10 Coach of the Year for the second time in four seasons this year after guiding her team to the regular season title and 15-1 A-10 mark.
FLYERS RECEIVE A-10 HONORS
The Flyers had a trio of student-athletes recognized with A-10 accolades with
Jayla Scaife being named First Team All-Conference and All-Defensive team,
Erin Whalen named Second Team All-Conference and All-Academic, and
Araion Bradshaw named All-Defensive team.
FLYERS IN REGULAR SEASON LEAGUE PLAY
Dayton has won 116 of its last 142 regular season Atlantic 10 games (.816), a streak that dates back to a 97-46 win over Rhode Island on Jan. 7, 2012, and includes a perfect 14-0 mark in conference play during the 2012-13 season.
THREE POINTS OF EXCELLENCE
Dayton has hit at least one three-point shot in 605 consecutive games dating back to Jan. 2, 2001, the longest streak in the Atlantic 10 Conference and one of the top streaks in the nation. The Flyers made a program-record 15 three-point field goals against Buffalo in the Connecticut World Vision Classic on Nov. 25, 2011. Dayton tied the record with 15 vs. Wright State on Nov. 28, 2012.
OFF TO A HOT START
Dayton has found much success under Coach Green in the month of January, going 30-2 in her first five seasons as head coach of the Flyers. That includes going undefeated in three of the four years before this season.

Since the 2009-10 season, Dayton is 171-21 (.895) when scoring 70 or more points, including 11-1 in 2016-17. During the 2010-11, 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons, the Flyers only lost one game per season when scoring at least 70 points, and dropped only two games in 2019-20 when reaching that mark.
