DAYTON – The University of Dayton women's soccer team is set to host an Atlantic 10 Quarterfinals match at Baujan Field on Sunday, following a regular season in which they posted their best conference record since 2015 at 8-2. The Flyers secured the #2 overall seed in the tournament, and will host the #7 seeded Richmond Spiders at Baujan Field on Sunday at 1 p.m.
"We're in a good form right now," commented head coach
Eric Golz Friday. "We're getting hot at the right time, and I like where we're at heading into this weekend. It will be a challenge to play the same team twice in a row, I would expect them to tweak some things and make some adjustments, and we will plan on doing the same. We need to show up and be the best possible version of us, creating attacking opportunities, and winning the tough battles. If we stick to what we do best, we're excited to see what our results will be."
The Flyers finished the regular season with a 11-5-2 overall record, and an 8-2 mark in Atlantic 10 play. Baujan Field was very kind to UD this year, posting a 6-1-1 record, the best the Flyers have posted at home since 2014. Dayton enters the A-10 Championships riding a season-high four match winning streak, their second such streak of the season. In their most recent streak, the Flyers have been clicking on all cylinders, outscoring their opponents 13-3 in those four matches.
Dayton will welcome their most recent opponent to Baujan Field on Sunday, as the Richmond Spiders will make their way to Dayton for a quarterfinals contest. The Flyers scored early and often in their most recent match with the Spiders, last Sunday, Oct. 24 to close out the regular season with a 3-0 victory in Richmond. The Spiders have had a very up-and-down season in conference, with a +11 goal differential in wins, and -8 goal differential in losses. Defense is key for the Spiders, as each A-10 win has come by way of a clean sheet. Richmond boasts a three-headed scoring attack, led by Jessie Prillaman (6 goals), TJ Anderson (5 goals), and Molly Wierman (4 goals). The Spiders also have two solid net-minders, with Claire Hinkle playing in 10 games and allowing 2.01 goals per game, and Taylor Montague playing 10 games and allowing 1.69 goals per game. After receiving a red card in Sunday's regular season finale, Hinkle will be ineligible for Sunday's contest, leaving Montague likely in charge of net-keeping duties.
The winner of Sunday's quarterfinals match will go on to the semifinals of the Atlantic 10 Championships, which will be hosted by the highest remaining seed, following quarterfinal play. The winner of the match between #3 Saint Louis and #6 Rhode Island will face the winner of Sunday's match at Baujan. Admission to the match Sunday is free, and the match will be streamed on ESPN+.
