The Flyers Last Played At UD Arena On Jan. 14

DAYTON - The University of Dayton women's basketball team returns home after a four-game, almost month long road stretch to host Richmond Friday, Feb. 12 at 5 p.m. at UD Arena.

SCOUTING THE FLYERS
Dayton continues to lead the Atlantic 10 with a 9-0 conference mark and a 10-1 record on the season. The Flyers have won nine in a row and are 3-1 at home this year.

Head coach Shauna Green is in her fifth season in charge of the Flyers and was named Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year last season, her second time at UD. She is just three wins away from career win No. 100 at Dayton.

As a team, the Flyers are averaging 66.5 points per game and boast one of the top defenses in the nation, holding opponents to 53.6 points per outing and just 33.1 percent shooting from the field. UD also has a +10.3 rebounding margin.

Dayton is led by redshirt senior Jenna Giacone who is averaging 13.1 points per game and averaging 18.0 points over the last four games. Fellow senior Erin Whalen is adding 12.7 points while freshman Tenin Magassa is coming off the bench with 9.6 points and 5.9 rebounds per game.

SCOUTING RICHMOND
Richmond comes to UD Arena with a 10-4 record overall and 7-2 league mark, putting them tied for second in the standings. The Spiders have won four games in a row and are 6-2 on the road this season.

Head coach Aaron Roussell is in his second year in charge of the Spiders, but has 327 career wins and a .702 winning percentage as a collegiate head coach.

This year, the Spiders are scoring 65.0 points each contest and allowing 60.5 points to opposing squads. Richmond is shooting 42.0 percent from the field, 31.8 percent from three, and 69.7 percent from the free throw line. The Spiders face a -2.9 turnover margin, but are outrebounding opponents to make up for it.

Leading Richmond is Kate Klimkiewicz with 13.4 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. Addie Budnik is contributing 11.5 points and shooting 50 percent from the floor as well.

LAST TIME OUT
Dayton powered its way to a 95-66 victory at La Salle last Sunday on the road. The Flyers dominated from start to finish and nearly hit 100 as Tenin Magassa recorded a team-high 20 points.

Richmond earned a 67-52 win at George Mason on Jan. 31 before team activities were paused. The Spiders 22 points and 23 points in the first and third quarters respectively in the win.

THE SERIES
Dayton and Richmond have played 27 times previously with the Flyers winning 17 times and the Spiders winning 10 contests. UD has won 14 in a row including last year's A-10 quarterfinal match-up 79-68.

STATISTICAL RANKINGS
This season the Flyers rank sixth in the nation in field goal percentage defense and 10th in scoring defense. UD is also 13th in rebound margin and 20th in blocked shots per game. Individually, Tenin Magassa is 14th in the country in blocked shots per game while Araion Bradshaw is 45th in assist to turnover ratio.

WHALEN JOINS 1,000-POINT CLUB IN CAREER
On Jan. 14 against Davidson, redshirt senior surpassed the 1,000-point mark in her career, two years at Dayton and two years at Vanderbilt University. She scored 19 points in the win to achieve that milestone.

MAGASSA NAMED A-10 ROOKIE OF THE WEEK AGAIN
Freshman center Tenin Magassa was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week on Feb. 8 for the second time on the season, having previously received the award on Jan. 18. Magassa averaged 13.7 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 4.0 blocks during a three game stretch, capped off with a career-high 20 points in the win at La Salle on Feb. 7.

SHORTENED NON-CONFERENCE PLAY
The Flyers only had two non-conference games and no exhibition contests due to COVID concerns. Dayton opened the season at Morehead State on Nov. 25  with a victory before dropping the home opener to Akron on Dec. 6.

BRADSHAW HELPS START ATHLETES DRIVING CHANGE
Redshirt senior Araion Bradshaw was one of a few Atlantic 10 women's basketball players to start Athletes Driving Change, a minority female, student-run organization dedicated to racial and social injustice on campuses in the A-10. Their mission is to create change through education, action, and service. Bradshaw also serves on the A-10 Commission on Racial Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.

FLYERS IN REGULAR SEASON LEAGUE PLAY
Dayton has won 123 of its last 149 regular season Atlantic 10 games (.822), a streak that dates back to a 97-46 win over Rhode Island on Jan. 7, 2012, and includes a perfect 14-0 mark in conference play during the 2012-13 season.

70'S THE MAGIC NUMBER
Since the 2009-10 season, Dayton is 172-21 (.895) when scoring 70 or more points, including 11-1 in 2016-17. During the 2010-11, 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons, the Flyers only lost one game per season when scoring at least 70 points, and dropped only two games in 2019-20 when reaching that mark.
