MIAMISBURG, Ohio – The University of Dayton men's tennis team dominated Saint Francis in a 7-0 victory on Sunday morning.
Â
"I'm happy with our performance today," head coach
Ryan Meyer said. "We played at a good level and maintained it.
Max DeCurtins was the highlight of the day. The guy was injured all of last year and got two wins today."
Â
The victory extends the winning streak for the Flyers to three and puts them at 3-4 overall in 2021. The Flyers opened the match up by winning all three doubles matches to take the doubles point. Sophomores
Connor Bruce and
Max DeCurtins got the win in No. 1 doubles and were followed by sophomore
Georgi Mavrodiev and senior
Steven Karl in the No. 2 doubles flight. Sophomore
Oliver Dunne and freshman
Erik Eliasson capped off the first portion of the contest with a win as well, giving the Flyers a 1-0 match lead.
Â
Dayton continued that momentum into singles play taking every point from the Red Flash. Bruce and Karl took the first two singles flights in straight sets. Eliasson and Mavrodiev continued that after the freshman won his first set in No. 3 singles in a tiebreak and the sophomore followed that up only allowing one point to go to Saint Francis.
Â
Dunne picked up his first singles win of the season in No. 5 singles, taking down Christian Banti of Saint Francis in straight sets. DeCurtins also picked up his first win of the season in singles play, as well as his first singles victory as a Flyer in No. 6 singles.
