Softball Splits With Visiting Youngstown State In Sunny Sunday Doubleheader

Dayton Picked Up A 7-3 Win Before Falling To Youngstown State, 9-8

DAYTON - The University of Dayton softball team split its doubleheader with Youngstown State Sunday, winning game one 7-3 before falling 9-8 in the nightcap. Both games were played at UD Softball Stadium.

Dayton is now 5-11 on the season while Youngstown State closes out the weekend with a 9-7 overall mark.

GAME ONE
Dayton 7, Youngstown State 3
• 2 - freshman Megan Ward was the only Flyer to record a multi-hit game
• 2 - sophomore Emily Daniel and junior Alyssa Cacini each knocked in two runs
• 7 - seven different Flyers scored in the game, including senior Briley Sidor who scored what proved to be the winning run
Winning Pitcher: Addy Bullis (3-3) - 4.1 IP, zero earned runs on one hit with two strikeouts
Losing Pitcher: Elle Buffenbarger (3-3) - 6.0 IP, six earned runs on nine hits with four strikeouts

GAME TWO
Youngstown State 9, Dayton 8
• 24 - the two teams combined for 24 hits in the nightcap, including 13 hits by the Flyers
• 4 - four Flyers recorded multi-hit games led by Sidor with three hits
• 4 - senior Abby Ehrenborg collected four RBI on her grand slam in the bottom of the fourth inning
Winning Pitcher: Maddi Lusk (4-2) - 3.0 IP, zero earned runs on six hits with three strikeouts
Losing Pitcher: Addy Bullis (3-4) - 2.2 IP, two earned runs on two hits with one strikeout

UP NEXT
Dayton continues its seven-game homestand with a single contest against Miami (Ohio) on Wednesday, March 24. First serve between the Flyers and RedHawks is set for 2 p.m. at UD Softball Stadium.

Based on campus and local COVID-19 protocols and capacity restrictions, Dayton home athletic events will not be open to the general public. Limited seating is available to guests of Dayton student-athletes (names must be on a pass list for admission). Currently, visiting team fans are not permitted in/at the facility. Additionally, attendance at Dayton home athletic events will be socially distanced and fans are required to wear masks. These protocols will be reviewed as the season progresses.
