DAYTONÂ - The University of Dayton softball team opened up Atlantic 10 Conference action with two wins over St. Bonaventure Friday afternoon at UD Softball Stadium.
With back-to-back homeruns in the bottom of the sixth – a grand slam by sophomore
Katie Reeg and a solo shot by junior
Alyssa Cacini – the Flyers surged to a 7-3 win in the first game. Freshman
Addy Bullis picked up the win and had a career-high 10 strikeouts on the mound for UD.
In game two, junior
Megan Gist belted a walkoff homerun in the bottom of the seventh inning to break a 1-1 deadlock and propel the Flyers to a sweep of the doubleheader.
Dayton is now 7-12 overall and 2-0 in A-10 play, while SBU drops to 0-8 overall and 0-2 to start conference play.
GAME ONE
Dayton 7, St. Bonaventure 3
• 7 – Reeg (4 RBI) and Cacini (3 RBI) knocked in all the UD runs; Reeg with a grand slam and Cacini went 2-for-4 with two homeruns and two runs scored. This was Reeg's first collegiate homerun.
• 2 – Seniors
Abby Ehrenborg (2-for-3 with a double) and Morgan Metaja (2-for-4 and a stolen base), along with Cacini, had two hits.
• 6 – six different Flyers scored in the game.
Winning Pitcher:
Addy Bullis (4-3) – 7.0 IP, three earned runs on five hits with a career-high 10 strikeouts
Losing Pitcher: Ally Haskell (3-3) – 5.1 IP, seven earned runs on 13 hits with two strikeouts
GAME TWO
Dayton 2, St. Bonaventure 1
• 3 – Cacini continued with a hot bat, going 3-for-3 with three doubles and a RBI.
• 2 – Freshman
Megan Ward went 2-for-3 and currently leads the Flyers with a .391 batting average this season.
• 1 – Gist hit her first career homerun, a walkoff in the bottom of the seventh.
Winning Pitcher:
Kelsey Gumm (1-4) – 2.2 IP, zero earned runs on two hits with one strikeout
Losing Pitcher: Emily Phelan (0-3) – 6.1 IP, two earned runs on nine hits with four strikeouts

Dayton continues conference play with another doubleheader vs. the Bonnies Saturday, March 27 with first pitch for the first game at noon ET at UD Softball Stadium.
