MIAMISBURG, Ohio – The University of Dayton men's tennis team won two matches on Sunday against Saint Louis and IU East at South Regency Tennis Center in Miamisburg.
Â
"Great weekend overall for Flyer tennis," head coach
Ryan Meyer said. "We started slow against SLU and it cost us the doubles point. I was happy with the way we bounced back to get four straight points and clinch the match. We are in a terrific position as we get closer to the A-10 Tournament. We have to continue to build on our games and prepare for Orlando."
Â
The Flyers have won six straight matches and improve to 10-0 at home in 2021. Dayton is 11-5 overall and 2-0 against A-10 opponents this season.
Â
UD opened the day with a morning victory over Saint Louis. The Flyers dropped the doubles point in No. 2 and No. 3 doubles before storming back to dominate singles play.
Â
Sophomore
Connor Bruce took No. 1 singles in straight sets over Oscar Alvarez 6-3, 6-4. The second singles flight went unfinished as did the fourth. Freshman
Erik Eliasson took No. 5 singles, also in straight sets and senior
Will Harper took the sixth singles flight 6-1, 6-1. Sophomore
Georgi Mavrodiev clinched the match in No. 3 singles, taking down Eliott Ekindi 7-5, 6-3 to give Dayton the first win on Sunday.
Â
"I'm happy we took care of business this morning," Mavrodiev said. "Saint Louis is a great team who doesn't let up easy so it was good to see everyone come together as a team to dig deep to win those singles courts."
Â
Dayton returned later on Sunday to take on IU East, and continued the momentum into the match with the Red Wolves.
Â
Bruce and sophomore
Max DeCurtins took care of business in No. 1 doubles, winning 6-0 and Mavrodiev and junior
