#UDSB Splits At Saint Louis; Offense Comes Alive In Game 2

The Flyers Won The Second Game 9-7

DAYTON – The University of Dayton softball team split its Atlantic 10 doubleheader against Saint Louis at the Billiken Sports Center Friday afternoon.

In game one, the Flyer offense was stifled and SLU won 15-0 in five innings.

UD replied with 14 hits in the second game. After two innings, Dayton fell behind 6-2, but responded with seven unanswered runs and held on for a 9-7 win in the second game. In the top of the third, Abby Ehrenborg hit solo homerun to cut the SLU lead in half. After Ali Weekly scored on a Megan Ward hit and SLU error, Alyssa Cacini hit a two-run homer to tie the game in the fourth. Dayton scored three more in the fifth as Taylor Erschen hit a bases-loaded double for 3 RBI.

Dayton moves to 10-13 overall on the season and 5-1 in Atlantic 10 play. The Billikens are 6-19 overall and 1-5 in A-10 action.

GAME ONE
Saint Louis 15, Dayton 0 (five innings)
10 – The Billikens jumped to a 10-0 lead with six hits and two Flyer errors in the bottom of the first.
4 – Dayton committed four errors in the game.
3 – Olivia Lessmann came in relief on the mound, pitching 4.0 innings and striking out three.
0 – The Flyers were held hitless in the shutout.
Winning Pitcher: Chloe Wendling (1-5)– 5.0 IP, CG, 0 hits, 0 runs, 0 ER, 3 strikeouts
Losing Pitcher: Sarah Bailitz (3-5) – 0.0 IP, 3 hits, 7 runs, 7 ER, 3 walks

GAME TWO
Dayton 9, Saint Louis 7
14 – Dayton responded with 14 hits in game two. Weekley was 3-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored and Katie Reeg was 3-for-4 with a run scored and a double. Ward (2-for-5 with a run scored and 1 RBI) and Briley Sidor (2-for-3 with two runs scored) also had a multi-hit game for the Flyers.
3 – Erschen led the way with 3 RBI
7 – Kelsey Gumm struck out seven and had no earned runs.
13 – The Flyers left seven on base and the Billikens left six stranded in game two.
