DAYTON - The University of Dayton women's basketball team heads back out on the road to take on the University of Akron Sunday, Nov. 13 at 2 p.m. at Rhodes Arena.
SCOUTING THE FLYERS
Dayton is coming off two close losses on the road at Providence and at home in overtime to Illinois State. The Flyers are looking to earn their first win on the year against an in-state opponent in Akron.
Head coach
Tamika Williams-Jeter is in her first season in charge of her hometown Flyers, coming over after a year at Wittenberg. She has assistant coaching stops at Kansas, Kentucky, Penn State, and Ohio State.
As a team this year, the Flyers are averaging 65.0 points per game and giving up 71.5 points to opponents. UD is shooting 41.9 percent overall, 36.8 percent from three point range, and 60 percent from the free throw line.
Dayton is led by redshirt junior
Destiny Bohanon with 19.0 pints and 5.5 rebounds per game while redshirt senior
Maliya Perry is adding 8.5 points and 10.4 boards per game.
SCOUTING AKRON
Akron is coming off an upsetting loss to Oakland where they were favored to get their first win on opening night of their season. Akron is now 0-1 as they lost 74-67.
Head Coach Melissa Jackson has started her fifth year at the helm of the Zips. Last year she led the Zips to a 17-12 overall record with a 13-7 record in conference play. The Zips were invited to the NIT tournament last season. Jackon's overall record with her tenure as Head Coach is 55-57 as she tries to climb over that .500 mark this season.
As a team, Akron is shooting 42.6 percent from the field, 32.1 percent from behind the arc, and 70.0 percent from the charity stripe. The Zips face negative turnover and rebounding margins as well.
Despite the loss, Akron showed some nice offensive flashes as they were led by the three-headed monster of Reagan Bass, Rachel Martindale, and Layne Ferrell. Bass led the Zips in scoring with 18 as Martindale followed that up with 15 points and Ferrell doing her part with 11 points.
LAST TIME OUT
Dayton hosted Illinois State in its home opener Thursday and suffered a 74-70 overtime loss to the Redbirds. The Flyers had four players in double figures, but it was not enough as UD was out-shot by 13 free throws in the game.
Akron suffered a 74-67 loss in the season opener at Oakland Monday, The Zips got 18 points from Reagan Bass and five three-pointers from Rachel Martindale in the effort.
SERIES HISTORY
This is the 13th meeting in the series history with the Flyers holding a 9-2 advantage. The Zips won the last meeting though in 2021, 77-74 at UD Arena. Prior to that, Dayton had won the last eight meetings.

Dayton ranks 58th in the country in three point attempts per game. Individually,
Maliya Perry ranks fifth in double-doubles while
Destiny Bohanon is ninth in field goal attempts, 11th in minutes played, and 18th in three-pointers.
FLYERS PICKED 10TH IN PRESEASON POLL
Dayton was picked to finish 10th in the 2022-23 Atlantic 10 Preseason poll. The Flyers were selected ahead of
George Washington, Saint Louis, and A-10 newcomer Loyola Chicago. UMass was chosen as the preseason favorite with all 15-first place votes, followed by La Salle, Rhode Island, Fordham, and VCU.
