Women's Basketball Finishes Pink Flamingo Championship With Kentucky

The Flyers And Wildcats Tip-Off At 4:30 p.m. Wednesday In The Bahamas

DAYTON - The University of Dayton women's basketball team finishes up the Baha Mar Pink Flamingo Championship Wednesday, Nov. 23 at 4:30 p.m. against the University of Kentucky. The game will take place at the Baha Mar Convention Center in Nassau, Bahamas.

SCOUTING THE FLYERS
Dayton is looking for its first win of the season with an 0-5 record, but has battled to end each and every game. The Flyers are 0-1 in neutral site games after falling to RV Ole Miss Monday.

Head coach Tamika Williams-Jeter is in her first season in charge of her hometown Flyers, coming over after a year at Wittenberg. She has assistant coaching stops at Kansas, Kentucky, Penn State, and Ohio State.

As a team this year, the Flyers are averaging  65.4 points per game and giving up 74.6 points to opponents each outing. Dayton is shooting 41.7 percent overall, 35.4 percent from three point range and 70.7 percent from the free throw line. The Flyers have a positive rebounding margin, but face a negative turnover margin.

Dayton is led by redshirt junior Destiny Bohanon with 16.8 points and 3.8 rebounds per game while junior Anyssa Jones is chipping in 10.2 points and 6.2 boards each outing. Freshman Nayo Lear and sophomore Shannon Wheeler have contributed 9.6 points and 9.0 points per game respectively.

SCOUTING KENTUCKY
Kentucky sits at 4-1 on the year and coming off its first loss of the season to No. 14 Virginia Tech Monday. The Wildcats are also 0-1 in neutral site games on the season.

Head coach Kyra Elzy is in her third season at the helm of Kentucky after serving as an assistant and associate head coach for eight seasons.

As a team, the Wildcats are scoring 74.2 points per game and allowing just 61.2 points for a +13.0 margin. UK is shooting 43.7 percent from the floor, 22.3 percent from behind the arc, and 68.2 percent from the charity stripe. The Wildcats have been out-rebounded, but benefit from a +8.4 turnover margin this season.

Individually, Kentucky is anchored by the trio of Jada Walker, Robyn Benton, and Blair Green, who combine for 40 points per game, with Walker's 14.6 ppg leading the way. The Wildcats have a deep squad with 10 players averaging double-digit minutes.

LAST TIME OUT
Dayton opened up the Baha Mar Pink Flamingo Championship with a 63-50 loss to RV Ole Miss Monday evening, despite tying the game up with just over seven minutes to go in the fourth.  Bohanon had a team-high 11 points while the Flyers outshot the Rebels in all three phases of the game.

Kentucky suffered its first loss of the season to Virginia Tech Monday at the tournament as well, 82-74. The Wildcats also had a fourth-quarter rally despite trailing by 18 going into it, but UK was unable to upset the No. 14 Hokies.

SERIES HISTORY
This will be the 22nd meeting in series history with Kentucky holding a 17-4 win advantage. The last time the two teams met was back in 2015 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament in which the Flyers advanced to the Sweet Sixteen and eventually the Elite Eight. UD upset the host Wildcats, 99-94, thanks to 28 points from Ally Malott.

STATISTICAL RANKINGS
Individually, Destiny Bohanon ranks second in the nation in minutes played and 33rd in field goal attempts.

UP NEXT
The Flyers will return home to host Ohio University on Tuesday, Nov. 29 at 7 p.m.  at UD Arena.
