Women’s Basketball Falls to Ohio at UD Arena Tuesday Night

The Flyers Lose Another Nail Biter as They Still Search for First Win

DAYTON – The University of Dayton women's basketball team fell to Ohio University by a score of 52-51 in their return to UD arena Tuesday night.
 
The Flyers (0-7) are still searching for their first win as the Bobcats (2-4) earned their second win of the season.
 
KEY MOMENT
4th quarter – Ohio Bobcats hit a layup with just 3.6 remaining to give them the lead and ultimately the win 52-51. 
 
GAME BREAKDOWN
1st Quarter: Dayton 13, Ohio 17
  • The game got off to a rare start as an administrative technical foul was assessed on the Flyers before the game which put them down 1-0 before tipoff.
  • By the media timeout, Dayton was down 15-8 thanks to four three-pointers for Ohio.
  • Senior Mariah Perez recorded a team-high four rebounds in the quarter.
  • Dayton outrebounded Ohio 13-10 as well as putting up eight points in the paint.
  • Ohio had five points off turnovers while the Flyers didn't have any.
2nd Quarter: Dayton 24, Ohio 31
  • It was a slow start to the quarter as both teams started shooting 1-4 from the field.
  • Dayton only shot 28% from the field while Ohio shot 37%.
  • The Flyers recorded six second chance points while the Bobcats recorded zero. 
  • Junior Anyssa Jones hit a three at the buzzer to cut Ohio's lead to seven at half.

3rd  Quarter: Dayton 42, Ohio 43
  • Dayton opened the scoring in the second half following a three pointer by Jones to cut Ohio's lead to four.
  • The Flyers recorded three offensive rebounds and three second chance points in the first two minutes to tie the game 32-32.
  • Ohio went on a 7-2 run heading into the media timeout to regain the lead 39-34.
  • Dayton struggled with free-throws in the quarter as they only managed to shoot 33 percent from the line while Ohio shot 6
  • Freshman Nayo Lear led the Flyers with 7 points in the quarter and also added two rebounds.
  • The Flyers had their best offensive quarter putting up 18 points and cutting Ohio's lead to one heading into the final quarter.
  • Senior Sydney Freeman hit a three-pointer with ten seconds to give the Flyers their first lead of the night. The Bobcats scored on a layup with one second remaining in the quarter to regain the lead.
 
4th Quarter: Dayton 51, Ohio 52
  • It was another slow start for both teams offensively as Dayton committed 4 turnovers and Ohio shot 2-6 from the field in the first four and half minutes
  • Freeman helped cut the Flyers' deficit back down to one, 48-47,  after an and-one layup. 
  • There were only 10 total points scored in the first seven minutes of the quarter. 
  • The Flyers defense showed up in the final quarter as they held Ohio scoreless over a six minute period in the quarter 
  • Redshirt Senior Maliya Perry scored the go-ahead layup with a minute remaining to give the Flyers a 51-50 lead.
  • Ohio scored a layup with 3.6 seconds on the clock to regain the lead 52-51. 
  • The Flyers committed seven turnovers in the final quarter whereas Ohio didn't record any
