Women’s Basketball Dominates In Win Over Cedarville

The Flyers Had Numerous Team and Individual Season-Highs

DAYTON  – The University of Dayton women's basketball team battled the Cedarville University Lady Jackets at home and powered its way to a 94-58 victory.
 
The Flyers (1-10) found their first win of the year against the Yellow Jackets (2-8).
 
KEY MOMENT
1st – 4:02 –Dayton goes on a 17-3 run over a five minute stretch of the first quarter.
 
GAME BREAKDOWN
1st Quarter: Dayton 27, Cedarville 15
  • Dayton started the game shooting 2-of-3 from the floor and accrued an 8-2 lead with 6:20 left in the first quarter.
  • By the media timeout with 4:02 left in the first quarter, Dayton was on a 17-3 run over the past five minutes. 
  • At the end of the quarter, Junior Anyssa Jones nailed a three point shot as the clock ran out.
  • Anyssa Jones led the Flyers with six points while senior Sydney Freeman led in rebounds and assists with three and five respectively.
  • The Flyers bench outscored the Yellow Jackets 14-2.
2nd Quarter: Dayton 48, Cedarville 32
  • Heading into the first media timeout of the second quarter, the Flyers led 35-21.

3rd Quarter: Dayton 72, Cedarville 42
  • With 5:59 in the third quarter, The Flyers held the Yellow Jackets to only five points, while they scored 14 themselves and were on a 10-0 run.
  • After making the last seven of eight field goals, the Flyers lead balloons to 26 with 1:34 left in the third quarter.
  • Freeman broke her career high in assists with 10 and continues to increase that high.
  • The Flyers were led by Perez with 18 points, Smith with six rebounds and Freeman with 10 assists.
4th Quarter: Dayton 94, Cedarville 58
  • At the media timeout at 4:57 left in the game, the Flyers led 82-49. Freeman continues to impress, hitting a three point shot to give her 13 points and 11 assists, her first double-double of the season.
  • The Flyers scored seven straight points over a two minute stretch to add to its lead.
  • Dayton dominated the rest of the game giving them their first victory of the year.

11 – Sydney Freeman breaks her season record in assists with 11 in the game, had a team-high 14 points to go with seven rebounds, and had 10 points in the third quarter alone.
19 –Anyssa Jones breaks her career high in points with 19
58 to 35 – Dayton out-shot Cedarville 58 percent from the floor to the Yellow Jackets' 35 percent
43 to 19– The Flyers out-rebounded the Yellow Jackets 43-19.
