DAYTON - The University of Dayton women's basketball team heads back out on the road to take on the University of Rhode Island Wednesday at 6 p.m. in Atlantic 10 action.
SCOUTING THE FLYERS
Dayton returns to action with a 19-4 record on the year and 10-1 A-10 mark. The Flyers are 10-2 on the road the season and was on a 13-game winning streak before the loss to VCU Sunday.
Head coach
Shauna Green is in her sixth season in charge of the Flyers and was named Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year 2020, her second time at UD. She ranks second all-time in program history in career wins.
As a team this year, Dayton is averaging 68.5 points per game and allowing just 56.7 points to opposing teams. The Flyers are shooting 41.0 percent overall, 35.3 percent from three point range, and 67.6 percent from the free throw line. UD has +8.0 rebounding and +1.3 turnover margins.
Dayton is led by sophomore
Makira Cook with 15.8 points per game while graduate student
Erin Whalen is adding 13.9 points per game and fellow grad student
Jenna Giacone is contributing 12.6 points each contest.
SCOUTING RHODE ISLAND
Rhode Island leads the A-10 at 20-3 overall and undefeated at 10-0 in league play. The Rams have won 13 straight and are unbeaten at home this season, 11-0.
Head coach Tammi Reiss is in her third season at URI and was the A-10 Coach of the Year last season.
This season, URI is scoring 66.0 points each outing and giving up just 51.8 points to opposing squads. The Rams are shooting 44.6 percent from the field, 33.6 percent from behind the arc, and 66.2 percent from the charity stripe. URI also has a +9.1 rebounding margin.
Leading the way for the Rams is Emmanuelle Tahane with 14.5 points and 9.0 rebounds per game while Dez Elmore is chipping in 12.0 points and 8.6 boards each outing.
LAST TIME OUT
Dayton ended its 13-game winning streak with a 60-58 loss to VCU at home Sunday. The Flyers had three players score in double-digits, but were unable to overcome 17 turnovers.
Rhode Island earned a 58-43 victory over Fordham Sunday at home after holding the Rams to just 17 points in the second half. Fordham shot just 28.8 percent from the field while URI was led by Emmanuelle Tahane's double-double of 15 points and 16 rebounds.
THE SERIES
Dayton and Rhode Island have met 29 times previously with the Flyers winning 25 contests to the Rams' four victories. UD has won 17 in a row including the last meeting on Feb. 9, 2020, 71-60.
STATISTICAL RANKINGS
Dayton ranks ninth in the country in defensive rebounds per game and 16th in total rebounds. Individually,
Araion Bradshaw is seventh in the nation in assist to turnover ratio while
Tenin Magassa is 33rd in blocked shots.
