PHILADELPHIA – The University of Dayton women's basketball team finished up a three-game road stretch with a 59-43 win over Saint Joseph's University Wednesday night.
The Flyers (22-4, 13-1 A-10) remain atop the Atlantic 10 standings while the Hawks (10-16, 6-8 A-10) head into their season finale on a loss.

th quarter – 7:55 – Dayton ended the game on a 7-0 run and 2:05 drought for Saint Joesph's to stifle any comeback attempt.
1st Quarter: Dayton 12, Saint Joseph's 5
- Both teams got off to a slow start offensively as the first field goal didn't come until the 7:57 mark with a jumper from graduate student Erin Whalen.
- At the media timeout, the score was 5-4 in favor of Saint Joseph's as Dayton was on a 4:02 scoring drought.
- Whalen nailed a three at the 2:25 mark to end the skid and put the Flyers back on top, 7-5.
- Sophomore Makira Cook scored five straight points for UD to push the margin to seven in the final minute of the quarter.
- Dayton held SJU to just 14.3 percent shooting in the opening 10 minutes.
2nd Quarter: Dayton 23, Saint Joseph's 15
- The Hawks entered the quarter on a 4+ minute drought, but ended it with the opening basket of the second.
- The Flyers went cold again from the floor not scoring for over three minutes as the Hawks pulled within one, forcing a Dayton timeout.
- Cook scored three straight buckets for UD to end the skid and add to the Flyers' lead with just over three minutes to go.
- Amidst an 8-0 UD run, Saint Joes had to call a timeout with 2:25 to play as the Flyers were up 22-13.
- Cook became the first player in double digits with 11 points.
3rd Quarter: Dayton 36, Saint Joseph's 25
- The Flyers picked up two quick fouls in the opening minute of the second half.
- Grad student Jenna Giacone hit a three at the 4:53 mark as part of a 5-0 run for Dayton and that forced another SJU timeout as the Hawks trailed by 12.
- The Hawks pulled within single digits and under three to go in the quarter as the score was 32-23 in favor of the Flyers.
- SJU hit a pair of free throws with less than a second on the clock, but Dayton still led by double-figures heading to the fourth.
4th Quarter: Dayton 59, Saint Joseph's 43
- Giacone drove straight to the basket on the first two possessions of the fourth quarter to increase the margin to 15 points. She joined Cook with double-digits in the contest.
- The Hawks carried over a 1-for-10 streak over from the third quarter.
- SJU cut the margin to single digits again, 46-38, forcing a Dayton timeout with 5:09 on the clock.
- Over the next few minutes, the pace slowed down, but Saint Joes hit a three at the 2:04 mark and called a timeout as the Hawks trailed by nine.
- All the Flyers had to do was hit their free throws down the stretch to clinch the win.
