Women's Basketball Remains At Home To Host George Mason Saturday

The Flyers And Patriots Tip-Off At 2 p.m.

DAYTON - The University of Dayton women's basketball team remains at home and hosts George Mason University Saturday, Feb. 5 at 2 p.m. at UD Arena. The Atlantic 10 contest will be on ESPN+.

SCOUTING THE FLYERS
Dayton enters the game with the fourth-longest winning streak in the country at 11 games. The Flyers sit at 17-3 overall and 8-0 in A-10 play. UD is 8-1 at home this season and will look to add another Saturday.

Head coach Shauna Green is in her sixth season in charge of the Flyers and was named Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year 2020, her second time at UD. She earned her 100th win at Dayton in the regular season finale last year.

As a team this year, Dayton is averaging 68.2 points per game and holding opponents to just 57.3 points each outing. The Flyers are shooting 40.7 percent overall, 35.2 percent from three point range, and 67.9 percent from the free throw line. UD has a +8.3 rebounding margin to benefit from.

Dayton is led by sophomore Makira Cook with 15.4 points per game, and graduate students Erin Whalen and Jenna Giacone, who are chipping in 15.2 points and 12.4 points respectively. Senior Kyla Whitehead is the leading rebounder for the Flyers with 7.1 boards to go with 7.3 points per game.

SCOUTING GEORGE MASON
George Mason comes to Dayton with an 8-12 mark on the year and 2-6 A-10 record. The Patriots are coming off a pair of wins over George Washington and Davidson, but prior to that had lost nine in a row. Mason is 5-5 away from home this season.

Head coach Vanessa Blair-Lewis is in her first season with GMU, but has 23 years of head coaching experience.

This season, George Mason is scoring 61.5 points each outing and giving up 66.4 points to opposing squads. The Patriots are shooting 36.9 percent from the floor, 27.3 percent from behind the arc, and 70.3 percent from the charity stripe. Mason faces negative rebounding and turnover deficits.

Leading the way for the Patriots is Amaya Scott with 17.3 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. Jordan Wakefield is adding 11.5 points and 5.3 rebounds per game as well.

LAST TIME OUT
Dayton rallied from a six-point second half deficit to earn a six-point victory over Duquesne Wednesday night at home. Four players scored in double digits for the Flyers, led by Kyla Whitehead's double-double of 11 points and 13 rebounds.

George Mason earned a tough road win at Davidson Wednesday, 58-50. The Patriots were 41 percent from the field and three, and were led by Taylor Jameson's 13-point effort.

THE SERIES
Dayton and George Mason have met 10 times previously with the Flyers winning eight of those meetings. The Flyers have won two straight including last year's matchup on Jan. 8, 59-37 in Fairfax.

STATISTICAL RANKINGS
Dayton ranks 16th in the nation in defensive rebounds per game and 19th in rebounds per game. Individually, Araion Bradshaw ranks 11th in the country in assist to turnover ratio while Tenin Magassa is 35th in blocks and Erin Whalen is threes per game.

OFF TO A HOT START
Dayton has found much success under Coach Green in the month of January, going 42-2 in her six seasons as head coach of the Flyers. That includes going undefeated in five of her first six seasons.

FLYERS IN REGULAR SEASON LEAGUE PLAY
Dayton has won 134 of its last 161 regular season Atlantic 10 games (.827), a streak that dates back to a 97-46 win over Rhode Island on Jan. 7, 2012, and includes a perfect 14-0 mark in conference play during the 2012-13 season.

70'S THE MAGIC NUMBER
