DAYTON - The University of Dayton women's basketball team opens Atlantic 10 play Tuesday, Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. at Belk Arena as the Flyers take on Davidson College.
SCOUTING THE FLYERS
Dayton sits at .500 on the season with a 4-4 record overall and 0-2 road mark. The Flyers have were on a three-game winning streak before the tough home loss to Purdue last Friday.
Williams-Jeter is in her second season in charge of her hometown Flyers, coming over after a year at Wittenberg. She has assistant coaching stops at Kansas, Kentucky, Penn State, and Ohio State.
The Flyers are averaging 69.1 points per game while giving up 72.0 points to opponents. Dayton is shooting 40.4 percent overall, 29.2 percent from three point range, and 73.6 percent from the free throw line. The Flyers boast one of the top rebounding teams in the league, ranking 15th in the nation in offensive rebounding and 34th in rebounding margin (+9.9).
Leading the way for the Flyers is junior transfer
Ivy Wolf with 12.5 points and 3.4 assists per game while redshirt senior
Destiny Bohanon is contributing 11.3 points each outing. Junior
Arianna Smith is a double-double threat every night with 9.7 points and 12.0 rebounds per game, ranking sixth in the country in rebounds per game and second in offensive boards per game.
SCOUTING DAVIDSON
Davidson has had one of the best starts to the season in the A-10 with a 7-1 record overall and a five-game winning streak. The Wildcats went down to the wire in a four-point loss at No. 16/17 North Carolina before upsetting RV/#22 Duke a few days later.
Head coach Gayle Fulks is in her in her seventh season at the helm and has high expectations for the Wildcats this season.
As a team, Davidson is scoring 71.5 points each contest and stifling opponents with just 53.1 points allowed per game, ranking 25th in the country in scoring defense. The Wildcats are shooting 44.5 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from behind the arc, and 72.5 percent from the charity stripe. DC has +9.0 rebounding and +2.5 turnover margins as well.
The Wildcats have four players averaging double figures, led by Elle Sutphin's 13.8 points and 5.2 rebounds per game, while Suzi-Rose Deegan and Charlise Dunn are chipping in 12.8 points apiece each outing. Fordham transfer MIllie Prior has been a strong addition with a team-high 8.5 rebounds and 11.1 points per game.
SERIES HISTORY
The Flyers and Wildcats have met 12 times previously with Dayton undefeated in the series at 12-0. The last two match-ups have been decided by six or fewer points including a 66-60 victory by UD on Jan. 11 last season at UD Arena.
LAST TIME OUT
Dayton battled Purdue to the finish, but fell short in a 67-59 loss at home Friday. The Flyers outscored the Boilers 26-11 off the bench, but were unable to complete the second-half comeback.
Davidson dominated in an 83-46 win over Longwood at home Saturday. The Wildcats held the Lancers 12 points or under in three of the four quarters and limited them to 29.8 percent shooting overall and 25 percent from three. Mallorie Haines had a game-high 22 points and hit six threes in the victory.
LEADING THE CONFERENCE
Dayton ranks No. 1 in the A-10 in offensive rebounds per game and 15th in the country. The Flyers are also second in rebounding margin and rebounds per game in the league.
FLYERS PICKED NINTH IN PRESEASON POLL
Dayton was picked to finish ninth in the 2023-24 Atlantic 10 preseason poll, two spots up from where the Flyers finished last season. UD was chosen ahead of VCU, their 2023 A-10 Tournament opponent, last year's regular season champion UMass, La Salle, and Fordham. Rhode Island was tabbed as the A-10 preseason favorite ahead of Saint Joseph's, the 2023 A-10 Tournament Champion Saint Louis, and Richmond.
PEREZ NAMED THIRD TEAM PRESEASON ALL-CONFERENCE

Mariah Perez was selected to the All-Atlantic 10 Preseason Third Team ahead of the upcoming campaign. The New Jersey native is coming off a career season in which she was named the team's Most Improved Player. She started all 27 games and had career highs with 11.9 points and 9.4 rebounds per game.
DOUBLING-UP
Graduate student
Mariah Perez recorded 12 double-doubles last season, giving her 13 for her career. That was the most for a Flyer player since JaVonna Layfield had 19 in 2017-18. This season she has one double-double against SIUE while teammate
Arianna Smith has three double-doubles.
FLYERS IN REGULAR SEASON LEAGUE PLAY
Dayton has won 145 of its last 183 regular season Atlantic 10 games (.803), a streak that dates back to a 97-46 win over Rhode Island on Jan. 7, 2012, and includes a perfect 14-0 mark in conference play during the 2012-13 season.
THREE POINTS OF EXCELLENCE
Dayton has hit at least one three-point shot in 688 consecutive games dating back to Jan. 2, 2001, the longest streak in the Atlantic 10 Conference and one of the top streaks in the nation. The Flyers made a program-record 15 three-point field goals against Buffalo in the Connecticut World Vision Classic on Nov. 25, 2011. Dayton tied the record with 15 vs. Wright State on Nov. 28, 2012.
