PHILADELPHIA - The University of Dayton men's soccer team returned to Atlantic 10 play Saturday, but suffered a 1-0 loss to Saint Joseph's.
The Flyers (2-6-1, 1-1-0 A-10) dropped their first conference game while the Hawks (3-5-1, 1-0-1 A-10) picked up their first A-10 victory.
SCORING BREAKDOWN
- 59:47 – Saint Joseph's scored the decisive goal in the 60th minute from Blake Driehuis.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The Flyers out-shot the Hawks 13-5 and put five on target compared to SJU's two.
- There was only one caution in the contest, which went to Saint Joseph's as fouls were 16-9 in favor of Dayton.
- Graduate student Hjalti Sigurdsson led the Flyers with four shots while three other teammates had two shots each.
- Senior goalkeeper Dario Caetano had one save on five shots faced.
COACH'S COMMENTS
"It came down to beating the elements today and we fell short," said head coach
Dennis Currier. "We lacked accuracy in the final third and give credit to SJU for showing more grit than us. We ultimately have to find a way to win these games where we are controlling possession and chances."
