DAYTON --The University of Dayton men's basketball team won in complete fashion against Capital 76-55 on Saturday night at UD Arena. This improves the Flyers to 4-0 on the campaign.Â
Javon Bennett led the Flyers offense with 16 points and Amaël L'Etang with 13 points and 10 rebounds. This capped off the Flyers earning their 20th consecutive home win.Â
GAME RECAP
First Half – Dayton 41, Capital 28
- After turnovers on both teams' opening possessions, junior Jacob Conner opened the scoring, giving the Flyers a 3-0 lead.
- Junior guard Javon Bennett followed with a strong drive through the defense, finishing through contact.Â
- Freshman Amaël L'Etang recorded his first points with a three-pointer, putting the Flyers up 8-4 at the 16:26 mark.
- Sophomore Isaac Jack added his first bucket with a pick-and-roll dunk assisted by senior Nate Santos at 14:56, maintaining an 11-9 lead.Â
- Bennett drove through the lane again, finishing with a left-handed layup.
- After forcing a Capital turnover, freshman Hamad Mousa converted a fast-break-and-one to push Dayton ahead 18-11 at the 11:00 mark.Â
- Santos then knocked down his first bucket, a three-pointer off a screen, extending the Flyers' lead to 21-11 at 10:12.Mousa added to the momentum with a steal and coast-to-coast layup, capping a 16-2 Flyers run with 8:48 remaining in the half
- L'Etang continued his strong first-half performance with a fast-break dunk off an assist from Santos, keeping Dayton comfortably ahead 29-14 at 7:25.
- Santos drilled his second three-pointer of the half from a baseline pass by Bennett, extending the Flyers' lead to 32-17 at 5:37.Â
- Bennett then scored seven consecutive points, including a clutch three as the shot clock expired, putting Dayton up 39-23 at 2:53.
​Second Half – Dayton 76, Capital 55Â
- The Flyers began their second-half scoring with a Conner three-pointer off a Mousa assist at the 19:01 mark.Â
- Redshirt junior guard Malachi Smith recorded his first field goal of the night with a drive through the paint, finishing with a layup at 16:29.
- At the 13:24 mark, L'Etang converted a layup from a Bennett assist, immediately followed by a Flyer steal and a Santos corner three-pointer.Â
- Senior guard Brady Uhl added to the scoreboard with a smooth midrange turnaround jumper, extending Dayton's comfortable lead to 58-37 at the 12:11 mark.
- L'Etang maintained his strong performance with a steal and dunk, pushing the Flyers' lead to 62-43 at 8:48.Â
- Redshirt freshman Jaiun Simon earned his first points on a fast-break layup, assisted by Uhl, at the 6:30 mark.
- Bennett contributed a three-point dagger, capping a 7-0 run for the Flyers at 4:48.Â
- Sophomore guard Makai Grant, son of head coach Anthony Grant, scored his first points as a Flyer with a backdoor reverse layup at the 1:45 mark on an assist from Will Maxell.
