Women's Basketball Hosts Central Michigan Sunday

The Flyers Return To Action After A 10-Day Break For Finals

DAYTON - The University of Dayton women's basketball team returns from a finals week break to host Central Michigan University Sunday, Dec. 15 at 1 p.m. at UD Arena.

SCOUTING THE FLYERS
Dayton heads into the contest with a 5-4 record on the season and 5-1 home mark. The Flyers have lost three of their last four and look to gain some momentum as they head into Atlantic 10 play at the end of the month.

Head coach Tamika Williams-Jeter is in her third season in charge of her hometown Flyers, coming over after a year at Wittenberg. She has assistant coaching stops at Kansas, Kentucky, Penn State, and Ohio State.

The Flyers are averaging 64.1 points per game and holding opponents to just 61.8 points each outing. Dayton is shooting 38.8 percent overall, 26.7 percent from three point range, and 69.3 percent from the free throw line. UD is outrebounding opponents by a +5.6 margin as well.

Leading the way for the Flyers are seniors Ivy Wolf with 16.7 points and 4.3 rebounds per game and Arianna Smith with 9.3 points and 7.8 boards each contest.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
CENTRAL MICHIGAN

Central Michigan comes to Dayton with a 3-6 record this year and off a tough road loss at No. 19/20 Iowa State last Sunday. The Chippewas are 1-2 in true road games this season.

Head coach Kristin Haynie is in her second season at the helm of CMU after previous coaching stints with the Minnesota Lynx and her alma mater Michigan State.

As a team, the Chippewas are scoring 62.0 points each outing and allowing 70.1 points to opposing squads. Central Michigan is averaging 36.5 percent from the field, 28.8 percent from behind the arc, and 67.1 percent from the charity stripe. Like UD, CMU is outrebounding opposing teams by +7.6.

Powering the Chippewa offense is Madi Morson with 11.7 points per game while Jess Lawson is chipping in 10.1 points and a team-high 8.6 rebounds per game. Jayda Mosely is the main deep-threat with a team-high 13 made threes in nine games.

SERIES HISTORY
The Flyers and Chippewas are meeting for the 13th time in program history with the series tied at 6-6. CMU won the last time they met on Nov. 21, 2019 at home, 81-80 in overtime.

LEADING THE PACK
Ivy Wolf ranks second in the A-10 in three pointers per game and three point attempts.

FIRST ROOKIE HONORS FOR LEUNG
Freshman guard Olivia Leung earned A-10 Rookie of the Week accolades on Nov. 25 after her 13-points, 11 of which came on the rally in the 4th, in the win over Providence.

UP NEXT
Dayton hosts rv Vanderbilt Thursday, Dec. 19 at 7 p.m. at UD Arena in the non-conference finale.

DOUBLING-UP
Senior Arianna Smith recorded 11 double-doubles last season and and averaged that per game. She already has two this season in the opener against SEMO and vs Central Connecticut State on Dec. 1.

FLYERS PICKED 11TH IN PRESEASON POLL
Dayton was picked to finish 11th in the 2024-25 Atlantic 10 preseason poll with 84 points. The Flyers were picked ahead of George Washington, Massachusetts, St. Bonaventure, and La Salle. Richmond was chosen as the preseason favorites, followed by Saint Joseph's, George Mason, and Davidson.

PREPPING FOR A-10 PLAY
Dayton's non-conference schedule features eight home games, one true road game, and two neutral site games. Besides hosting the likes of Providence and Vanderbilt, UD traveled to No. 16 Duke on Nov. 14 and participated in the Music City Classic in Nashville, Tenn.
