DAYTON - The University of Dayton women's basketball team travels to George Mason University Wednesday night for the final road game of the regular season.
SCOUTING THE FLYERS
Dayton enters the week with an 11-16 record overall and 5-11 Atlantic 10 mark. The Flyers are coming off a heartbreaking loss at Loyola Chicago, but will look to get some momentum in the final week of the season.
Williams-Jeter is in her second season in charge of her hometown Flyers, coming over after a year at Wittenberg. She has assistant coaching stops at Kansas, Kentucky, Penn State, and Ohio State.
The Flyers are averaging 64.8 points per game and giving up 68.8 points to opponents. Dayton is shooting 40.9 percent overall, 30.1 percent from three point range, and 73.8 percent from the free throw line. The Flyers are one of the top rebounding teams in the conference with a +8.6 margin, ranking 15th in the country.
Leading the way for the Flyers is redshirt senior
Destiny Bohanon with 10.5 points and 32.1 minutes per game. Junior
Arianna Smith has 11 double-doubles already this year and is a threat every night with 9.7 points and 11.1 rebounds per game.
SCOUTING GEORGE MASON
George Mason is still looking to earn at least a share of the A-10 regular season title with a 13-3 record in conference play and 22-5 mark on the year. The Patriots are 11-1 at home this season as well.
Head coach Vanessa Blair-Lewis is in her third season at George Mason, but 25th year as a head coach.
As a team, the Patriots are scoring 71.4 points each outing and limiting opposing squads to just 57.7 points per contest. GMU is shooting 39.9 percent from the field, 31.8 percent from behind the arc, and 72.1 percent from the charity stripe. The Patriots rank fourth in the nation in bench points and 14th in turnover margin at +5.5.
Powering the Mason offense is Sonia Smith, with 14.9 points and 3.0 assists per game, and A-10 Rookie of the Week Zahirah Walton, with 11.2 points and 5.9 rebounds per game, while leading the Patriots in steals and blocks.
SERIES HISTORY
The Flyers and Patriots have met 13 times previously with Dayton holding a 10-3 series advantage. The two teams squared off at UD Arena earlier this month with GMU earning a 24-point victory over the Flyers.
LAST TIME OUT
Dayton suffered a tough 64-61 loss at Loyola Chicago Sunday despite leading by double-digits in the first half. The Flyers held the Ramblers to just six points in the opening quarter, but were outscored 22-18 in the decisive fourth.
George Mason defeated A-10 leaders Richmond at home Saturday in overtime, 82-76. The Patriots defended their home court in a thrilling contest where four players scored 13+ points. Sonia Smith led the way with 23 points while Zahirah Walton had 18 points and 14 boards.
