Women's Basketball Hosts George Mason Sunday

It Will Be The Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Game And National Girls & Women In Sports Day

DAYTON - The University of Dayton women's basketball team returns home for an Atlantic 10 contest against George Mason University Sunday, Feb. 11 at 12 p.m.

SCOUTING THE FLYERS
Dayton is in the middle of three games out of four on the road and hosts George Mason with a 10-13 record overall and 4-8 A-10 mark. The Flyers are 6-5 at home this year.

Williams-Jeter is in her second season in charge of her hometown Flyers, coming over after a year at Wittenberg. She has assistant coaching stops at Kansas, Kentucky, Penn State, and Ohio State.

The Flyers are averaging 64.3 points per game and giving up 69.7 points to opponents. Dayton is shooting 40.4 percent overall, 29.3 percent from three point range, and 73.3 percent from the free throw line. The Flyers are one of the top rebounding teams in the conference and Top 20 in the country with a +8.9 margin.

Leading the way for the Flyers is junior Ivy Wolf with 11.8 points and 3.6 assists per game and redshirt senior Destiny Bohanon with 11.0 points each outing. Junior Arianna Smith is a double-double threat each night with 9.9 points and 11.3 rebounds per game.

SCOUTING GEORGE MASON
George Mason ended its eight-game winning streak with a loss to Saint Joseph's Thursday, but still boasts an 18-4 record on the season and 9-2 A-10 mark. The Patriots are 9-3 away from home this year.

Head coach Vanessa Blair-Lewis is in her third season at the helm of the Patriots and is coming off her 700th career game as a head coach.

As a team, George Mason is averaging 72.2 points per game and holding opposing teams to 56.7 points. The Patriots are shooting 40.0 percent from the field, 32.4 percent from behind the arc, and 71.0 percent from the charity stripe. GMU benefits from positive rebounding and turnover margins.

The Patriots have a balanced squad with five players averaging over 9.0 points each contest. Sonia Smith leads the team with 14.7 points per game while Zahirah Walton is contributing 11.2 points and 5.5 boards each outing.

SERIES HISTORY
The Flyers and Patriots have met 12 times previously with Dayton holding a 10-2 series advantage. UD is winners of the last four meetings including the contest last season on New Year's Day, 71-66 in Virginia.

LAST TIME OUT
Dayton went on the road to Fordham and dropped a 70-48 decision to the Rams. The Flyers shot just 31 percent overall and let Fordham shoot 44.4 percent. Smith recorded a double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds.

George Mason fell at home 59-47 to the A-10 leaders Saint Joseph's on Thursday. The Patriots led 13-8 after the first quarter, but a 25-13 advantage by the Hawks put them on top the rest of the way. Ta'Viyanna Habib had a team-high 12 points and eight rebounds.

LEADING THE CONFERENCE
Junior Arianna Smith currently leads the A-10 in offensive rebounds, rebounds per game, total rebounds, and double doubles. She ranks fifth in the nation in offensive boards, ninth in rebounds per game, and 10th in total rebounds.

FIALA NAMED A-10 ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Dayton freshman center Eve Fiala was named A-10 Rookie of the Week on Feb. 5 after averaging 13.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game in contests against Saint Louis and La Salle.

UP NEXT
The Flyers head back to Philadelphia on Wednesday, Feb. 14 at 7 p.m. at Saint Joseph's.

DOUBLING-UP
Junior Arianna Smith has already recorded 10 double-doubles this season and is averaging that per game. She posted those against Lindenwood, SIUE, Wichita St., Davidson, Ohio Dominican, Massachusetts, Loyola Chicago, Saint Louis, Richmond, and Fordham.
