Women's Basketball Secures Win over LaSalle With Authority

Arianna Smith Led the Flyers with a Double-Double, 21 Points and 15 Rebounds

DAYTON- The University of Dayton Women's Basketball team secures the win over LaSalle making their record 4-1 in conference play.
 
GAME BREAKDOWN
 
1st Quarter: Dayton 23, LaSalle 15

  • Senior Ivy Wolf started off scoring for the Flyers with a bucket in the paint in the first minute.
  • Sophomore Jayda Johnson sunk a three from the corner after an assist from Nicole Stephens.
  • Graduate student Rikki Harris made two of two free throws making the score Dayton 7, LaSalle 2.
  • Jayda Johnson found Arianna Smith under the rim for a layup.
  • Wolf assisted Smith for another two points in the paint.
  • In the next 30 seconds, Smith found another pass from Harris and made her third layup of the game, Dayton 13, LaSalle 4 with 5:44 to go.
  • Wolf escaped defense and made a jump shot inside the three point line.
  • Freshman Olivia Leung drove to the rim and made a layup.
  • Freshman Molly O'Riordan got the rebound and put it back up for two with 2:39 to go.

2nd Quarter: Dayton 44, LaSalle 27
  • Wheeler put up a quick layup to kick off scoring in the second quarter.
  • Scoring slowed on both ends until Smith was sent to the line and made both free throws, making the score Dayton 27, LaSalle 19.
  • Stephens found a pass from Wolf and sank a jumper despite tough defense with 4:47 remaining.
  • Stephens returned the favor with an assist to Wolf, who then made a three to get momentum rolling again, making the score Dayton 32, LaSalle 23.
  • Wolf made a quick turnaround for another layup thanks to a pass from Harris.
  • Stephens was under pressure but found Shantavia Dawkins under the hoop for a layup with 3:30 to go, Dayton 36, LaSalle 23.
  • After a pass from Stephens, Smith effortlessly put in a layup to bring herself into double digit scoring.
  • Smith fought defense under the hoop and got herself another two with 37 seconds left in the half, Dayton 44, LaSalle 26.
 
3rd Quarter: Dayton 55, LaSalle 43
  • Wolf drained a jumper for the first Flyer points in the second half making the score Dayton 46, LaSalle 31 with 8:02 remaining.
  • Wheeler drove under the basket and put up a bucket to keep the lead over the Explorers.
  • Johnson was able to finish for a layup at the run after a few rebounds, Dayton 53, LaSalle 37 with 3:41 remaining in the quarter.
 
4th Quarter: Dayton 79, LaSalle 61
  • Smith came out of the gate hot for the final quarter, sinking a jump shot only 20 seconds in.
  • Harris found Dawkins for a made jumper making the score Dayton 59, LaSalle 45.
  • Wolf hit a three keeping the energy high with 7:47 to go.
  • Halfway through the final quarter, Wolf made a jumper to give herself 19 points.
  • Shortly after, Wolf continued her scoring streak with a made three, Dayton 70, LaSalle 57 with 4:25 remaining in the game.
  • Straight out of a timeout, Smith got the rebound and put it back up for two.
  • Wolf sent Smith a long pass under the basket for a made layup with 1:20 to go in the game.
  • Eleanor Monyek found the assist from O'Riordan and made a layup for her first points of the game as the last minute expired.
