Women's Basketball Faces Belmont Sunday At UD Arena

Tip-off Is At 1 p.m.

DAYTON - The University of Dayton women's basketball program returns home to host Belmont University Sunday, Nov. 16 at 1 p.m. at UD Arena.

SCOUTING THE FLYERS
Dayton enters the contest with a 2-1 record overall and 1-0 home mark. The Flyers are looking to extend their two-game winning streak with victories over Mercyhurst and Xavier.

Head coach Tamika Williams-Jeter finished her fourth season in charge of her hometown Flyers, coming over after a year at Wittenberg. She has assistant coaching stops at Kansas, Kentucky, Penn State, and Ohio State.

The Flyers are averaging 77.7 points per game this season, scoring 70+ in all three game this year. Dayton is holding opponents to just 65.7 points each outing. The Flyers are shooting 52.6 percent overall, 35.2 percent from three point range, and 62.7 percent from the free throw line. UD benefits from a +7.0 rebounding margin, but has a -3.3 turnover gap.

Senior Nayo Lear has been the focal point of the offense to this point with a team-high 17.7 points per game and shooting 50 percent from three. Junior transfer Fatima Ibrahim is contributing on both ends of the floor with 12.0 points per game and team-highs of 8.0 rebounds and 3.0 blocks each contest.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
BELMONT

Belmont comes to Dayton for its third road game of the season, sitting at 1-2 on the year. The Bruins' two losses however have come at No. 6/7 Oklahoma and No. 12/12 Tennessee. Belmont made it all the way to the WBIT title game last year before falling to champions Minnesota.

Head coach Bart Brooks is in his eighth season at the helm of the Bruins, leading the team to four NCAA tournament appearances.

As a team, Belmont is scoring 69.3 points each outing and giving up 71.0 points to opposing squads. The Bruins are averaging 35.7 percent from the floor, 30.0 percent from behind the arc, and 67.2 percent from the charity stripe. Belmont has to overcome a -9.7 rebounding margin, a strength for the Flyers.

Leading the way for the Bruins has been the duo Jailyn Banks with 14.0 points and 3.0 steals and Hilary Fuller with 13.0 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. Avery Strickland is chipping in 10.7 points and has a team-high seven threes as well.

LAST TIME OUT
Dayton traveled just down the road to Cincinnati Tuesday to take on Xavier University, earning a late 71-66 win over the Musketeers. The Flyers trailed at the half, but outscored the hosts 26-19 in the third to make the difference.

Belmont battled No. 12 Tennessee and former Flyer and current Lady Vols assistant coach Jenna Burdette Thursday in Knoxville. The Bruins were unable to pull off the upset though in a 68-58 loss, due to a tough 22-9 scoring disadvantage in the fourth.
