2010-11 Men's Basketball Roster
Biography
Spearman is a strong and physical guard who plays with energy and urgency. The 6’3” 194 pound athletic swingman’s strong body allows him to play tough defense, and he shows great anticipation in the passing lanes. According to rivals.com, Spearman was the 139th-rated player overall and the 39th-rated shooting guard for the class of 2010. He also was rated as the 15th best player from the state of Illinois, according to chicagohoops.com.
As a senior at Simeon High School, Spearman averaged 14.7 points and 7.5 rebounds per game while leading his team to the 4A State Championship in Illinois. He led his team in scoring in all seven state tournament games, and he forced overtime with a difficult three pointer and double overtime with two free throws in a 58-50 victory over Benet in the sectionals. In the championship game, he scored a game high 13 points as Simeon defeated Young 51-36. Spearman was named as a unanimous selection to the all-tournament team and was named tournament MVP. It was the fourth state title for Simeon and first since Derrick Rose led the school to back-to-back titles in 2006 and 2007.
Spearman brings incredible intangibles to the 2010 Flyer recruiting class. Simeon basketball coach Robert Smith states that Spearman “worked hard every day and kept telling me he was going to win us a state championship. He never gave up.” Scouts describe Spearman as being “all about hustle and hard work. He is the glue guy that always gives his best effort on the floor. He will dive for loose balls, make energy plays and do what it takes for his team to win.”
