2022-23 (Redshirt Sophomore)
• For the second consecutive year appeared in every single game (34), making 19 starts
• Averaged 10.8 ppg during the Flyers wins while averaging 9.3 ppg along with 4.8 rpg on the season
• Scored a season high 20 points in a win against SMU
• Recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds in a win against Western Michigan
• Was first on the team in free throw percentage (80%) minimum of 50 attempts
2021-22 (Redshirt Freshman)
• One of four Flyers to appear in all 35 games
• Averaged 5.6 points and 4.1 rebounds
• Hit a game-winning fadeaway at the buzzer to beat the eventual National Champion Kansas Jayhawks
• Hit double-digits scoring in six games including a 16-point performance against UMass
• Was second on the team in free throw percentage (73%) minimum 50 attempts
2020-21 (Freshman)
• Amzil signed with the Flyers in the fall of 2020 to be part of UD’s nationally-ranked recruiting Class of 2021. Instead, exactly 50 days after he signed, he earned the first of his three Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week awards.
• He was named named to the A-10 All-Rookie Team.
• In 19 games (15 starts), he was third on the team in scoring (9.9 points a game), rebounds (5.6) and FG% (.496, 68-137).
• Thrust into the lineup after just three practices with the team when Chase Johnson left the program, and two other more experienced players were injured, Amzil made a splash with 22 points and seven rebounds against La Salle.
• Over a 10-minute stretch from the end of the first half in to the second half, he scored 17 consecutive points for UD against the Explorers.
• He had his first career double-double (11/11) at Duquesne.
• Amzil had 11 points (4-6 FG) and nine rebounds at St. Joe’s.
• He was the third Anthony Grant recruit to be named to the A-10 All-Rookie Team (Jalen Crutcher and Obi Toppin were the others.)
• Amzil was named the winner of the Thomas M. Luppe Award, which is awarded to the first-year player (or players) on the team who best demonstrates the courage, desire and integrity of former Flyer freshman Tom Luppe.
• He was named the Male Rookie of the Year at the 2021 RUDYS.
Prior To UD
• Amzil had a strong showing in 2019 playing for Finland at the U18 European Championships in Latvia, where he was the Finnish U18 team captain and averaged 12.4 points and 7.3 rebounds in seven games.
• He also helped the Finnish U18 team win the All-Nordic and Baltic Sea Cup championships. in 2019. At the All-Nordic tournament, he averaged 16.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 2.4 steals per game.
• He has played in 86 international games for the Finnish junior national team
• Before coming to the United States, he attended graduated from Mäkelänrinteen lukio (Mäkelänrinne High School), and played for the Helsinki Basketball Academy.
• Last season for HBA-Marsky, he averaged 10.6 points, 8.1 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.6 steals, as HBA-Marsky finished 21-0 in Finland's first division before the league's post season was canceled due to the worldwide Covid-19 pandemic.
• In 2017, he was U16 Finnish national league MVP, leading his homoetown team KTP to the league championship.
• He was also selected to play for Team Europe in the Jordan Brand Classic All-star game in 2017.
• Even though international competitions were not played, Amzil was able to participate in some workouts with the Finnish National Team before coming to America.
• Because of his limited time in the U.S., he was listed as a three-star recruit, but his addition catapulted an already projected Top-25 recruiting class up to as high as 15th.
• He joined a trio of highly-regarded prospects – DaRon Holmes, Malachi Smith and Kaleb Washington – in the Flyer fall recruiting class.
• Amzil enrolled in First Love Academy in western Pennsylvania for a post-grad season when he first came to the States, but did not play in any games at First Love.
Personal
• Son of Katri and Brahim Amzil
• Has three siblings: Two sisters -Latifa and Safia; and a brother, Abdullah
• His older sister Latifa has also played in the Finnish Junior National program, and is currently a sophomore at Cibola College, a JC in Maianna, Fla.
• His brother, Abdullah, played in Flyin’ To The Hoop in Dayton on MLK weekend in 2022
• This season, Abdullah, a 6-7 forward who is a junior in high school, is playing in Finland’s 1st Division B pro league for Pantterit Helsinki
• Mustapha is an undeclared major in the College of Arts & Sciences
• High School Coach was Jukka Toijala
• Mustapha has visited 20 countries
• He played soccer for seven years before switching to basketball
• In the summer of 2022 he played in the Finnish national team’s training camp and saw action in scrimmages against Estonia
