Dobson was named the head cross country coach and assistant track and field coach at the University of Dayton on Aug. 9, 2022. 

Dobson comes to Dayton by way of Centerville High School, where he has served as the girls cross country head coach for the past 22 seasons. During these 22 seasons, Dobson has also served as the assistant track and field coach for Centerville during two separate stints, and has also helped coach several successful post collegiate athletes.
 
The Anderson University alumnus is an incredibly decorated coach at the high school level, leading the Elks to 13 conference championships in cross country, 11 district championships, and five regional championships in 20 seasons. His cross country teams also earned five state championships and were runners up an additional two times. Dobson also oversaw four state champion events on the track and field side in the 4x800m (2013, 2015), 3200m (2013), and the 1600m (2010).
 
A resident of Centerville, Ohio, Dobson is also a USATF Level I Certified Coach, as well as a USATF Level II Certified Coach for distance. He also serves as founder and director of the Up and Running Juniors Running Program in Dayton, and is involved in elementary and middle school cross country camps in the Dayton area. David lives in Centerville with his wife, Amy and seven children; Addison (18), Owen (16), Jackson (16), Eden (14), Chasity (14), Nevaeh (8), and Ja'Nylah (5).
