David Oberholtzer enters his third season with the Dayton Flyers. In his first year at UD, Oberholtzer helped the team go 14-2-3 and make an appearance in the Atlantic 10 Championships. As part of that season, the Flyers led the conference in shots, goals per game, assists per game, fewest goals allowed, and shutouts. He helped Dayton follow up that with a 7-7-5 record last year, including wins over 19th-ranked Davidson and in-state foe Ohio State and ties against nationally ranked Valparaiso, Saint Louis, and UAB. Oberholtzer also guided UD to yet another Atlantic 10 tournament appearance in 2014.
Oberholtzer joined the Flyers after spending four years as assistant at Division II powerhouse Fort Lewis College in Colorado. There he helped the Skyhawks win a pair of National Championships.
He also played an integral part in Fort Lewis’ two Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference regular season titles, two RMAC tournament titles, and two NCAA Division II tournament appearances.
As a player at Fort Lewis, Oberholtzer spent two seasons in defense for the Skyhawks in 2006 and 2007. There he amassed seven points in 35 career games. Oberholtzer recorded three goals in one assist. Those efforts earned him second team All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference honors in his senior campaign. He also earned RMAC Defensive Player of the Week honors on Oct. 2, 2007.
In his junior season in 2006, Oberholtzer helped lead Fort Lewis to a Division II National Championship Runners-Up after falling to Dowling 1-0 in the finals. That season, the Skyhawks posted a 21-2-1 record overall and went undefeated in conference play.
Oberholtzer also won a National Championship as a player with Yavapai College of Prescott, Arizona in 2003.
As a coach, Oberholtzer guided Fort Lewis to a 68-15-6 record in four years and a 43-9-4 RMAC mark. The highlights of his tenure with the Skyhawks were identical 24-1-0 seasons in 2009 and 2011 that ended in NCAA Division II National Championships. Fort Lewis finished in the top two in the RMAC each season under Oberholtzer
Other coaching experiences for Oberholtzer have been with club teams and academies in Colorado, New Mexico, and Arizona, including an assistant coaching stint at Chandler-Gilbert Community College.
Oberholtzer studied Exercise Science-Exercise Specialist option at Fort Lewis College and completed his degree in 2013. He’s a 2003 graduate of Corona del Sol High School in Tempe, Ariz.
Oberholtzer resides in Dayton with his wife Megan and son Porter.
