Kelly Altman joins the Dayton men's soccer coaching staff after 14 years of experience at the Division I, Division III, high school and club levels.
No stranger to college soccer, Coach Altman has held positions at the University of New Mexico, Valparaiso University, High Point University and Trinity University accumulating a combined record of 164-57-35.
Success has followed Coach Altman at every stop. In addition to contributing to a winning percentage above 70%, he has helped his teams to 13 Team Academic-All American Awards, recruited three top 25 classes, coached 17 All-Americans and 28 total professionals. Altman also brings with him many achievements at the high school level, racking up two Texas HS State Titles and four district titles while the Head Boys’ Varsity Coach at Central Catholic HS in San Antonio, TX. For his efforts, he was named TAPPS (Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools) Coach-of-the-Year across all sports in 2009.
Altman played as a defender for the Trinity University Tigers (Texas) from 2001 to 2004 and was integral in the Tigers’ NCAA National Championship winning season of 2003. A team captain in 2004, Altman contributed to the success of a squad which amassed an overall record of 79-5-2 and set an All-Divisions record with 43 consecutive wins. Following a stint with professional side Charleston Battery and with his collegiate soccer career complete, Coach Altman maximized his final year of athletic eligibility in 2005, as a kicker on the Tigers football team. An All-SCAC and All-South Region 1st team honoree, he was named the SCAC Special Teams Player-of-the-Year.
A native of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Altman comes from a rich family history of soccer players. Father Alan played for Occidental College (CA) in the 1970s, older brother Ryan was a Blue Jay at Creighton University from 1999 to 2002 and younger brother Kyle was an All-American at Trinity University from 2004 to 2007 before captaining Minnesota United FC for five seasons.
Coach Altman holds licenses with both the USSF and the NSCAA.
