Evan Muys enters his fourth season on staff with Dayton volleyball for the 2017 season. He serves as the team's offensive coordinator and primarily works with the Flyers' attackers. Muys came to Dayton after spending the 2013 season on staff at Marquette.
Muys is responsible for the team's offensive systems, scouting opponents' block and defense, offensive game planning and offensive play calling. In addition to his duties as offensive coordinator, he also works players on blocking, passing and defense.
Over the last three seasons, Muys has helped lead the team to an 87-14 overall record, including a 41-1 mark in Atlantic 10 Conference play. The Flyers have won three-consecutive A-10 Regular Season titles as well as three-consecutive A-10 Championship titles. The program made its 12th appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 2016.
During the 2013 season, Muys helped the Golden Eagles to a Second Round appearance in the NCAA Championship and a 26-6 overall mark for the year. MU finished the year ranked No. 23 in the national AVCA Top 25 Poll and the squad placed three on AVCA All-American rosters. His primary duties with the team included charting and recording statistical data during practices and matches, film breakdown, equipment management and collaboration with the offensive coordinator on match day.
Muys coached the 1st Alliance Volleyball Club 17 Silver team for three seasons where he led his team to three consecutive top 18 finishes in the open level at the USA Volleyball Girls' Junior National Championships. He also held private lessons all three years and led defensive position practices for two of the three as coach for 1st Alliance.
The Orland Park, Ill., native attended St. Xavier University in Chicago, where he played two years of collegiate volleyball as an opposite-outside hitter. He ranks fifth all-time in kills with 328 and fourth all-time in digs and blocks with 276 and 118, respectively. Muys holds the school record for kills in a match with 23 and was a two-time all-conference honoree as a Cougar.
Muys graduated from SXU in August of 2013 with a bachelor's degree in biology.
