Job Responsibilities: Sport Program Administrator for men’s tennis, women’s tennis, women’s track & field, women’s cross country, men’s cross country and rowing. Responsible for performance initiatives such as strength and conditioning and nutrition. Serves on the University of Dayton Hearing Board and Alcohol Committee as well as the Atlantic 10 Men’s Tennis (Chair), Women’s Tennis, and Student-Athlete Experience committees.
Past Experience: Started the University of Dayton strength and conditioning program. Founded both UD Athletes in Action and the Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC). Member/Chair of the Certification Commission of the National Strength and Conditioning Associate 2002-2006. Managed/supported projects involving the Frericks Center, Cronin Center and the Graul Tennis Complex.
Education: MS Exercise Physiology, Wright State University (1985). Certified by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (CSCS). Awarded emeritus status as a Registered Strength and Conditioning Coach (RSCC*E).
Personal: Lives in Washington Township with wife Kelly. Son and daughter-in-law, Marcus and Megan Owens live in Atlanta.
Notable: Owens received the 2022 University of Dayton Marianist Service Award which honors full-time staff whose behavior, over a significant number of years, is congruent with the University's Catholic and Marianist character.
The renovated 23,000 sq ft Collins Gym was renamed the Owens Training Center in 2023 due to his long history of dedication to the Athletics Division. This made possible through a generous donation from his best friend Colin Connor.
