Tony Aker joined the Flyer football program as the wide receivers coach in the summer of 2025.
He comes to UD after five years as the head coach at Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisc. Â The 2005 Wisconsin High School Athlete of the year brings 14 years of college coaching experience to Dayton.
Aker began his coaching career at his alma mater, Wisconsin-Stevens Point, as a student assistant in 2011. He spent four seasons as a full-timer on the staff at Stevens Point, serving as wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator his last two years.
He then spent the next four seasons (2016-2019) at Carroll University in Waukesha, Wisc., where he was associate head coach and offensive coordinator/quarterback coach.
A native of Bloomington, Ind., Aker moved to Brown Deer, Wisc. Wisconsin as a teen and was a star athlete at Brown Deer High School. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel chose him as its Wisconsin Athlete of the Year in 2005. He spent two years at Rochester Community and Technical College where he was an National Junior College Athletic Association All-American and two-time all-region performer. Aker helped lead his team to the 2007 NJCAA national championship.
An All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference selection at Stevens Point, Aker earned a bachelor's degree in sociology in 2012.
