FLYERS HEAD TO LA SALLE FOR A-10 SHOWDOWN

DAYTON, Ohio -
The University of Dayton men's soccer team will head to Philadelphia, Pa., on Sunday for its lone contest of the weekend. The Flyers (11-2-2, 1-2-2 A10) will take on the Explorers (6-6-3, 3-1-1 A10) at 12 p.m. on Nov. 3.

THE LAST TIME OUT
The Flyers were defeated for only the second time this season in a tough 1-0 loss in the regular season home finale against St. Bonaventure last Sunday. The Bonnies' Emmett O'Connor scored the game's only goal despite UD out-shooting SBU 16-14.

ABOUT THE EXPLORERS
La Salle is 6-6-3 overall, but has hung around the top of the A10 standings all season with a 3-1-1 league record. The Explorers rank second in the A10 in assists per game (1.53) and lead the A10 in saves per game (5.80).

Head coach Pat Farrell is in his 27th year at the helm, and has a number of talented players at his disposal. Jason Plumhoff is first in the A10 in assists per game (0.57), goals per game (0.50), points per game (1.57) and total goals, assists, and points. Goalkeeper John McCarthy is also one of the top players in the league with an A10-leading 69 saves.

AGAINST COMMON OPPONENTS
In games against similar opponents this season, Dayton has a 1-1 record while La Salle is 2-0. The only common foes were Duquesne and St. Bonaventure from last weekend.

NATIONAL RECOGNITION
Earlier this season, Dayton was ranked in the NSCAA poll multiple times. The Flyers dropped out of the rankings, but reached as high as No. 18 nationally. They were also ranked in a number of other polls including Soccer America and Top Drawer Soccer.

CONFERENCE STATISTICAL RANKINGS
Dayton leads the Atlantic 10 in assists per game (1.67), points per game (5.80), scoring offense (2.07), total assists (25), total goals (31), total points (87), save percentage (.818) and winning percentage (.800). Individually, Abe Keller is second in the A10 in assists per game (0.53), third in goals per game (0.47), second in points per game (1.47), and first in total assists (8) and total points (22). Chris Froschauer is also No. 3 in goals against average (0.766) and No. 2 in save percentage (0.818).

SHAPING THE PROGRAM
UD men's soccer had 16 newcomers at this point in the season last year. The 2013 is different as the Flyers benefit from the experience of nine seniors and three graduate students.

WINNINGEST COACH
Head Coach Dennis Currier became UD's winningest soccer coach in 2011 recording win number 66, surpassing former head coach Roy Craig who had 65 wins from 1988-1995. In addition, Currier's wins came in 130 games, which was 31 games less than Craig. Currier holds a .711 lifetime winning percentage with a combined record of 278-103-35.

PRESEASON PREP
Dayton faced a pair of quality opponents in the preseason after tying the University of Kentucky 0-0 in the opener and defeating Eastern Illinois 2-1. To wrap up the preseason, the Flyers held their annual Red and White intersquad scrimmage the following Sunday  in which the Red team came out on top 5-2. Sophomore Maik Schoonderwoerd scored a pair of goals in the scrimmage for the Reds.

PRESEASON ACCOLADES
The Flyers had a trio of players recognized by preseason All-Atlantic 10 team lists. Senior Abe Keller was named First Team All-A-10 in the College Sports Madness poll with sophomore goalkeeper Chris Froschauer earning second team honors in that same release. Freshman forward James Haupt was named to the All-Rookie team by the A-10 and was tabbed the Freshman of the Year by CSM as well.

ACROSS THE GLOBE
This year's Flyer squad features 10 international players. Dayton has student-athletes from Canada, England, France, Germany, Ghana, Netherlands, Jamica, Costa Rica, Sweden and Switzerland.

UP NEXT
Dayton will head into the final weekend of the regular season where it will face Massachusetts on Friday and Rhode Island on Sunday.
