Mason rallied with a 5-0 run to cut the Dayton lead to one, 16-15, but four of the next five points went to the Flyers. The Patriots were within two at 22-20 but back-to-back GM attack errors gave UD set point. The set ended with a Jendryk kill to give the Flyers a 25-20 win and the two-set match advantage.

Despite falling behind by two points four times in the first part of the third set, Dayton evened the set at 6-6 on a kill from Brown and then took the lead on an Agu-Hannan block. The advantage was three at 12-9 after a Lolade Owokoniran attack error and then it was pushed to four, 14-10, on another GW mishit.

The Patriots cut it to one several times but a kill from Campbell gave the Flyers a two-point lead, 19-17, and Mason called for timeout. The advantage was five, 23-17, after a strong swing from Brown and Brown also set up match-point with a kill of the hands of the Patriot blockers.
