DAYTON OPENS THE 2013 EA SPORTS MAUI INVITATIONAL WITH #13/12 GONZAGA
The University of Dayton Flyers open the 2013 EA Sports Maui Invitational on Monday, Nov. 25 against the No. 13/12 Gonzaga Bulldogs. Tip-off is at midnight ET. The game will be televised on ESPN2, carried by WHIO Radio and are available with live video, stats and streaming audio at DaytonFlyers.com.
ABOUT GONZAGA
The Gonzaga Bulldogs (4-0) moved up to No. 12 in the USA Today rankings and to 13th in the Associated Press Top 25. Gonzaga ranks in the NCAA's Top 20 in scoring averaging 91.3 ppg and Top 10 in field goal percentage at .555. The Zags are led by their dynamic backcourt duo of Kevin Pangos (18.8 ppg) and Gary Bell (16.0 ppg).
SERIES STUFF
This is the first meeting between the two programs.
CHAMPION VS. CHAMPION
The opening round matchup features two former Maui Invitational champions. Dayton won the 2003 event while Gonzaga captured the crown in 2009.
MARVELOUS IN MAUI
The Flyers will be making their third trip to the EA Sports Maui Invitational. Dayton is 5-1 in its previous appearances. In 2000, UD placed in third after upsetting No. 12 UConn and No. 6 Maryland. In 2003, the Flyers won the tournament title after knocking off Central Michigan, San Diego State and Hawai'i. The 2013 EA Sports Maui Invitational will be the sixth consecutive in-season tournament Dayton will have participated in.
FILL IT UP
Dayton is not only 4-0 to start the year, but has also scored 70 or more points in the first four contests. The last time that happened was back during the start of the 2003-04 season, also the last year UD played in the EA Sports Maui Invitational. The Flyers won the Maui Invitational in 2003.
STEAL ONE'S THUNDER
Dayton tied a program-record with 17 steals at Georgia Tech. In fact, 10 of the 11 Flyers had at least one steal versus the Yellow Jackets.
A BAKER'S DOZEN
Dayton all-time against teams ranked No. 13 in the AP Top 25 poll is 4-4.
UP NEXT
UD continues in the 2013 EA Sports Maui Invitational. The Flyers will play either Baylor or Chaminade, depending on the first round outcomes.
