DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton men's soccer team will head back out on the road for its next two contests this weekend at the Missouri State Tournament. The Flyers take on Western Illinois on Friday at 6 p.m. ET in Springfield, Mo. After a day off Saturday, Dayton finishes up the tourney with a game against Detroit at 1 p.m. ET Sunday.
THE LAST TIME OUT
The Flyers won the 2013 Dayton Flyer Classic last weekend at Baujan Field in Dayton. With a 5-1 win over Northern Kentucky Friday and a 2-0 win over Lipscomb Sunday, the Flyers improved their record to 3-0 on the season.
ABOUT THE LEATHERNECKS
Western Illinois enters the weekend with a 1-2 record overall after picking up a win over Jacksonville and suffering losses to North Florida and Green Bay. The Leathernecks have a veteran coach though in 17th-year coach Dr. Eric Johnson.
With a young squad of 10 freshmen, WIU relies on newcomers in a number of areas. Freshman Diego Lopez leads the team with two goals while sophomore Erick Bloom has contributed an assist. Junior Yves Dietrich is between the goal posts for the Leathernecks.
ABOUT THE TITANS
Detroit is winless on the season after picking up ties against IUPUI, Cornell, and Robert Morris. The Titans were due to face Michigan state Wednesday, but weather cancelled the event.
Trevor Flynn has scored the only goal for Detroit in the regular season and was assisted by Kevin Pinkos. Goalkeeper Nathan Steinwascher has 20 saves through three games and boasts an excellent 0.27 goal-against average.
OFF TO A FAST START
Dayton has jumped out to a 3-0 record at the start of the 2013 season and has outscored opponents 11-3 on the year. Two of the wins helped the Flyers clinch the Dayton Flyer Classic championship.
LENNING FOR MVP
Sophomore defender
Christopher Lenning was named Dayton Flyer Classic MVP after helping the Flyer defense allow just one goal the entire weekend.
ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM
Dayton had four players named to the All-Tournament team after the Dayton Flyer Classic. Senior
Abe Keller scored three goals in two games to earn honors while sophomores

Amass Amankona, and
Christopher Lenning received accolades as well.
RED JERSEY
Senior midfielder
Eddie Jones earned the teams' Red Jersey. An award presented to the best performer in the preseason for UD. Players accumulate points in games, practices and team challenges.
SHAPING THE PROGRAM
UD men's soccer had 16 newcomers at this point in the season last year. The 2013 is different as the Flyers benefit from the experience of nine seniors and three graduate students.
WINNINGEST COACH
Head Coach
Dennis Currier became UD's winningest soccer coach in 2011 recording win number 66, surpassing former head coach Roy Craig who had 65 wins from 1988-1995. In addition, Currier's wins came in 130 games, which was 31 games less than Craig. Currier holds a .707 lifetime winning percentage with a combined record of 268-102-33.
PRESEASON PREP
Dayton faced a pair of quality opponents in the preseason after tying the University of Kentucky 0-0 in the opener and defeating Eastern Illinois 2-1 last weekend. To wrap up the preseason, the Flyers held their annual Red and White intersquad scrimmage Sunday in which the Red team came out on top 5-2. Sophomore
Maik Schoonderwoerd scored a pair of goals in the scrimmage for the Reds.
PRESEASON ACCOLADES
The Flyers had a trio of players recognized by preseason All-Atlantic 10 team lists. Senior
Abe Keller was named First Team All-A-10 in the College Sports Madness poll with sophomore goalkeeper
Chris Froschauer earning second team honors in that same release. Freshman forward
James Haupt was named to the All-Rookie team by the A-10 and was tabbed the Freshman of the Year by CSM as well.
ACROSS THE GLOBE
This year's Flyer squad features 11 international players. Dayton has student-athletes from Canada, England, France, Germany, Ghana, Netherlands, Jamica, Costa Rica, Sweden and Switzerland.
