DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton women's basketball team kept two streaks alive with its 73-64 win over Fordham(15-4, 4-2 A-10) Sunday at UD Arena in front of 1,936 fans and in a game that was nationally-televised on ESPNU. The game had 16 lead changes and nine ties.
The Flyers (11-4, 4-0 A-10) have won 22 consecutive Atlantic 10 games, dating back to Feb. 11, 2012. UD has also won 21 consecutive home games; its streak is the third longest in NCAA D-I women's basketball.
Sophomore
Amber Deane led UD in scoring with 15 points, while sophomore
Jodie Cornelie-Sigmundova and junior
Ally Malott added 14 points each. Malott also had a game-high 14 rebounds to notch her 10
th career double-double and sixth this season.
Sophomore
Kelley Austria turned in a solid performance of 12 points, five assists and a season-high six steals. Senior
Cassie Sant was the fifth Flyer to score in double figures, contributing 10 points and eight rebounds.
UD trailed just 39-38 after the first half, despite the Rams shooting 56 percent from the field, including 87 percent (7-of-8) from three-point range, in the first 20 minutes of action.
Both teams struggled to put away a field goal to start the second half. UD did not convert until an Austria layup with 13:32 left to play to tie the score 41-41.
The Rams led 54-48 with just 5:29 left to play in the game.
Malott scored all 14 of her points in the final 5:17 of the game. Fordham's Samantha Clark hit a three-pointer to give the Rams a 58-57 lead and Malott answered with a three the next time down the floor to give the Flyers the lead for good with 2:42 to play.
The Flyers have two road games at UMass (Wednesday, Jan. 22 at 7 p.m.) and Saint Joseph's (Sunday, Jan. 26 at 6 p.m. on NBC Sports Network). UD's next home game is Saturday, Feb. 1 vs. George Mason at 6 p.m. The Flyers will celebrate National Girls and Women in Sport Day.Â
