Facebook Photo GalleryDAYTON -- The University of Dayton men's basketball team battled back from 15 down to tie the game, but Langston Galloway's banked three-pointer with 1.8 seconds left lifted Saint Joseph's to a 60-57 win Wednesday night at UD Arena.
Dayton controlled much of the first half, leading by as much as eight points. The Flyers took a 25-20 lead into halftime.
Coming out of the half, Dayton scored the first bucket, but St. Joe's went on a 27-5 run to take a 15-point lead (47-32) with 10:07 left.
UD then went on a 10-0 run of its own, aided by two Devin Oliver three's to cut the lead to five. Dayton continued to battle back, eventually tying the game on a Dyshawn Pierre post move in the lane with 11 seconds remaining.
The Hawks brought the ball to mid-court and called timeout. SJU's plays was to put the ball Galloway's in his hands and run him off two picks, where he took what would prove to be the game winner from the right wing with 1.8 seconds left. Oliver got the ball to Jordan Sibert just short of mid-court, and Sibert's Hail Mary hit the backboard and the rim, but not the net as Dayton lost its fourth straight game.
Sibert led the scoring attack for the Flyers, finishing with 21 points on 6-of-14 shooting from beyond the arc. Oliver was the other Flyer in double digits, and finished with 16 points. Freshman point guard Scoochie Smith had three points, four rebounds and five assists against no turnovers off the bench.
As for the Hawks, guard Chris Wilson led the way with 15 points, while Galloway finished with 12.
The loss drops the Flyers to 13-8 on the season, and 1-5 in the conference. Saint Joseph's improves to 14-6 on the year, and 4-2 in the A-10.
Dayton remains at home this weekend, hosting George Washington University on Saturday, February 1. Tip-off is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. ET.
