DAYTON OPENS PIONEER FOOTBALL LEAGUE SEASON AT DAVIDSON

Dayton Has Won 11 PFL Championships In 21 Years

The University of Dayton football team is heading to Davidson, N.C. this Saturday to compete in their first Pioneer Football League game of the season against the Davidson Wildcats. Game time at Richardson Stadium is 1:00 pm E.T.
 
Dayton is 2-1 on the season, while Davidson is currently 1-4.  The 'Cats fell in their PFL opener to Morehead State two weeks ago.
 
Dayton finished 7-4 overall and 5-3 in the PFL in 2013.  The Flyers finished tied for fourth in the Pioneer Football League and had their 36th winning season in the last 37 years last season. 
 
Rick Chamberlin is seeking his 50th win in seven seasons as UD's head coach (his 40th year in the program as a player, assistant and head coach).

The Flyers return 14 starters (seven offense, five defense, two specialists) from last season.

GOOD NEWS WORTH REPEATING
The Flyers enter the season with the third-best winning percentage (.753, 116-38) in FCS football since 2000 AND have produced the most football Academic All-Americans (22) at any level of competition in the same time frame.  The top five are Harvard (.784), Montana (.770), Dayton (.753), North Dakota State (.735) and Appalachian State (.711).

STREAKING
UD has not been shut out in a school-record 423 straight games, the best such active string in all of college football. The last team to shut out the Flyers was Marshall, 9-0, on Oct. 16, 1976. That is also the all-time FCS record.

SERIES STUFF
Dayton leads the series with Davidson 10-1. Last year, the Flyers won 40-8 at Welcome Stadium on October 5, 2013. Connor Kacsor rushed for 244 yards and two touchdowns for Dayton in the game.  UD has won the last six meetings.

UP NEXT
The Flyers are on the road again next week, flying to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. to take on Marist in the Red Foxes Homecoming Game at 12 noon E.T.  .  Dayton's next home game is Saturday, Oct. 18 when Morehead State visits Welcome Stadium.  Kickoff on the 18th is at 1 :00 p.m. ET.
