FLYER FOOTBALL TAKES ON MOREHEAD STATE IN PFL HOME OPENER

Dayton Is Home For The First Time In A Month

DAYTON -- The University of Dayton football team returns home this week to take on the Morehead State Eagles on Saturday, Oct. 18.  Game time at Welcome Stadium is 1 p.m. ET.

Dayton is 4-1 on the season and 2-0 in the Pioneer Football League, while Morehead State is currently 2-4 and 1-2 in the PFL.  Dayton is coming off its third straight victory, a 31-21 win over Marist.  Morehead State is coming off its second conference loss, a 45-26 home defeat to Jacksonville.   

The Dayton win at Davidson was head coach Rick Chamberlin's 50th career win.  Chamberlin is in his seventh season as the Flyer boss, but this is his 40th season in the Dayton football program counting his four seasons as a player and 29 as an assistant.
 
Dayton finished 7-4 overall and 5-3 in the PFL in 2013.  The Flyers finished tied for fourth in the Pioneer Football League and had their 36th winning season in the last 37 years last season. 

STREAKING
UD has not been shut out in a school-record 425 straight games, the best such active string in all of college football. The last team to shut out the Flyers was Marshall, 9-0, on Oct. 16, 1976. That is also the all-time FCS record.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES
• Morehead State relies on a high-powered offense which is ranked second in the PFL, averaging 412.5 yards a game.  The MSU defense ranks last in the PFL and is giving up an average of 505 yards a game.
• The Eagles are led by the backfield duo of sophomore quarterback Austin Gahafer and redshirt senior running back Rees Macshara.  Gahafer is third in the PFL in passing yardage (222.5 yards per game), while Macshara is fifth in rushing (68.6).  Gahafer is also fourth in the conference in total offense (252.0).  He is 138 of 277 passing (.498) with 1,335 yards, nine touchdwns and six interceptions.

SERIES STUFF
• Dayton leads the series 14-5, and has won the last five games.  Last year in Morehead, Ky., UD won 42-14 on Oct. 26.  In the last meeting in Dayton, the Flyers won 41-27 on Oct. 13, 2012.
• Dayton is 5-2 all-time at home against the Eagles.

NATIONAL LEADERS
• Connor Kacsor is fifth in FCS football in rushing (145.2) and 14th in all-purpose yardage (160.6).
• William Will is second in FG's (2.0).
• As a team, UD is 8th in 3rd-down defense (25.8%).

WHERE THE IS A WILL (LEFT-HANDED VERSION)
• A four-year starter at quarterback, Co-captain Will Bardo was Dayton's MVP last season.  He moved into second place on UD's career total yardage list last year and now has 7,368 yards.  Kevin Hoyng is the Dayton record holder (9,528).
• He is 21st on the Flyer all-time career rushing list (1,648 yards).  He is the third quarterback behind Kelly Spiker (2,059) and Kevin Hoyng (1,666).
• The lefty from Highlands High School in Ft. Thomas, Ky., completed 144 of 262 yards passing (.550) for 1,920 yards and 13 TD. Last year.  He also gained 519 yards on 96 rushing attempts (5.4 avg.) and scored nine touchdowns, all second on the team.
• Over the last seven games he played in 2013, he was 94 of 155 (.606) for 1,328 yards and 11 TD.
• He was named First Team Preseason All-PFL.
• Against Georgetown, Bardo was 19 of 33 for 176 yards and a touchdown.
• Bardo was 15 of 26 for 201 yards and two touchdowns against Robert Morris.
• At Davidson, he was 26 of 42 for 298 yards, with three TD's and two interceptions.  In the fourth quarter alone, he brought Dayton from behind twice, going 8-for-12 for 107 yards.
• Against Marist, he was 19 of 27 for 161 yards and two scores, while also adding a touchdown on the ground.
• For the season, Bardo has completed 89 of 148 passes (.602) for 928 yards.
• Bardo has started a Dayton-record 36 games at quarterback.
• He is Dayton's 2014 NFF Campbell trophy semifinalist.

• William Will's fumble scoop-and-score play in the Marist game became an internet sensation in less than 48 hours.  After it was posted on the DaytonFlyers YouTube Channel two days after the game, it went viral, gaining over 1.5 million views over the next 48 hours. 
• The most prominent mentions came from ESPN (Twitter, ESPN.com and Sportscenter on Oct. 14), Yahoo! (front page and in sports), Bleacher Report, Deadspin, NCAA.com, Sporting News, FOX Sports Ohio, Washington Post and NESN.
• The College Football Hall of Fame asked for a copy of the play for their interactive displays.
• Will scored on three consecutive plays (the PAT that made it 21-14, the kickoff, and the ensuing PAT.

UP NEXT
Dayton goes on the road, playing at PFL  preseason favorite San Diego on Oct. 25.  Game time is 9 p.m. ET.  UD is back home on Nov. 1 against Valparaiso.
