#UDVB TO HOST TWO AT HOME THIS WEEKEND

Dayton to Play Davidson, VCU at Frericks Center

Match Notes

DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton volleyball team opened Atlantic 10 Conference play with two wins as part of a three-win weekend to extend the team's winning streak to six matches. This weekend, the Flyers return to Frericks Center for their first two home matches of the conference season. UD will host A-10 newcomer Davidson on Friday at 7 p.m. followed by a 1 p.m. match-up with VCU on Sunday.

Scouting Davidson
Davidson (2-9, 0-1 A-10) opened its first season of Atlantic 10 Conference play at home last weekend against VCU, dropping the match, 3-1, to the Rams. The Wildcats are currently suffering through a six-match losing streak and last picked up a win on Sept. 6, a 3-0 sweep of N.C. Central at the Wake Forest Invitational. Davidson is led by Hannah Rau with 2.69 kills/set and Morgan Shannon with 3.82 digs/set.

Scouting VCU
After getting off to a 2-7 start, VCU (7-7, 1-0 A-10) has won its last five matches including a 3-1 win at Davidson last weekend to open Atlantic 10 Conference play. The five-match winning streak includes two sweeps and a 3-2 win over Virginia. The Rams are led by Janelle Sykes with 3.08 kills/set, a .341 hitting percentage and 1.10 blocks/set while Mary Kilbane is the team's leading passer at 3.75 digs/set.

Series Stuff
• Friday's match will be the first meeting between Dayton and Davidson.
• The Flyers have previously squared off against the Rams of VCU four times with the series even at two wins apiece. VCU joined the Atlantic 10 in 2012 and the Rams claimed both meetings between the two squads this past season.

Flyer Facts
• Tim Horsmon is in his sixth season overall, but first since 2007, as head coach of the Flyers in 2014. His record at Dayton is 141-47 and his overall win-loss mark sits at 317-211 in 16 seasons as a head coach.
• The Flyers have won six consecutive (four in straight sets) and eight of their last nine matches.
• Junior Alaina Turner leads the team and the Atlantic 10 while ranking 18th nationally with 0.50 service aces/set. She also leads the league and ranks 23rd nationally with 4.98 points/set. Turner also ranks in the top 35 nationally in five other categories.
• Current A-10 Defensive Player of the Week freshman Amber Erhahon leads the conference and ranks 38th nationally with a .392 hitting percentage. Freshman Jane Emmenecker, the reigning A-10 Rookie of the Week, ranks third in the A-10 and 35th nationally with 10.90 assists/set while junior Janna Krafka is third in the A-10 and 108th nationally with 4.35 digs/set.
• With 153.0 team total blocks, Dayton ranks 12th nationally out of 150 teams ranked by the NCAA. The team also ranks 15th with 846 kills and 18th with 783 team assists.
• Dayton has won the Atlantic 10 Regular Season title 10 times (2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2007, 2006, 2005, 2004, 2001, 1998). The Flyers have won the A-10 Championship title eight times (2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2007, 2005, 2004, 2003) and have made nine NCAA appearances in program history.

13th to 1,000
With two wins at the season-opening Bowling Green Hampton Inn Invitational, Dayton has surpassed the 1,000-win mark as a program and is just the 13th NCAA DI team to attain that level of success. The Flyers currently rank 13th all-time in the Division I record book with an overall program tally of 1,011-564 over 44 seasons (1970).

Also Passing 1,000
Junior libero Janna Krafka has also passed 1,000 ... career digs. With her 33 digs at the BGSU Hampton Inn Invitational, she reached the 1,000-dig mark for her career. With 1,237 career digs, Krafka now ranks fifth all-time in the UD career record book. She is only 192 digs behind Cathy Wojciechowski (1990-93) who ranks fourth with 1,429 career digs.

Your Assistance, Please
Senior Isolde Hannan is moving up the Dayton career assisted blocks list as the top blocker for the Flyers this season. Hannan currently ranks sixth all-time with 399 block assists, just 16 behind fifth-placed Megan Campbell (415). So far this season, she has recorded a team-best 63 BAs and is averaging 1.11 total blocks/set (eight solo blocks). Heading into this season, Hannan has recorded three consecutive seasons with 100+ assisted blocks and is well on her way to a fourth.

Turn Down for What
As the team's kills leader, junior Alaina Turner consistently produces offensively for the Flyers. She ranks second in the Atlantic 10 and 33rd nationally with 4.19 kills/set. Turner also pops up in several other categories in the NCAA National Ranking Summary: 3rd in total attacks (741), 5th in service aces (31), 9th in total kills (260), 14th in attacks/set (11.95), 18th in aces/set (0.50) and 23rd in points/set (4.98).

Consistently Accurate
The team's hitting percentage continues to improve and the Flyers currently rank first in the Atlantic 10, hitting at a .249 clip. Dayton also leads the league with 846 team kills, ranking the Flyers 15th nationally.

Erhahon A-10 defensive player, Emmenecker Rookie of the Week
Freshman Amber Erhahon picked up her second weekly award from the Atlantic 10 on Sept. 29 after being named the league's Defensive Player of the Week. Erhahon averaged 1.70 blocks per set for the week as the Flyers picked up three-straight wins. She recorded a career-high nine blocks in UD's 3-1 win at A-10 defending champion Duquesne on Sept. 26. Her classmate, freshman Jane Emmenecker was also recognized by the conference office - as Rookie of the Week. Emmenecker averaged 12.00 assists/set for the week of Sept. 22-28. She tallied a career-high 50 assists to go with a career-high 16 digs, a career-high six blocks and a career-high three service aces in UD's 3-1 win at Duquense.

UD Picked Third in A-10 Preseason Poll
Dayton has been chosen to finish in third place in the Atlantic 10 for 2014. The Flyers, winners of four of the last five A-10 titles, tallied 78 points in voting among the league's head coaches as announced by the conference office Aug. 20. Defending champion Duquesne was selected to win the title, receiving eight first-place votes.

Following its first conference weekend at home, Dayton will hit the road again to take on George Mason and George Washington. The Flyers will face off against the Patriots on Friday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. and then will head to the nation's capital for a 7 p.m. tilt against the Colonials.
