#UDWSOC WILL FACE #14 VIRGINIA TECH IN NCAA FIRST ROUND

Dayton Is Making Its Ninth NCAA Appearance

DAYTON, Ohio –  The University of Dayton women's soccer team will play in Blacksburg, Va. against Virginia Tech (14-5-0) on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. in the 2014 NCAA Tournament.

The Flyers (12-8-2) learned their foe during 2014 DI Women's Selection Show. UD earned the Atlantic 10 Conference's automatic bid to the tournament. Dayton won the 2014 Atlantic 10 Women's Soccer Championship to earn the conference's automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament. To do so, the Flyers had to knock off two teams that dealt them a regular season loss (Saint Joseph's, a 3-1 loss on Oct. 10 and La Salle, a 1-0 loss on Oct. 17) and tied in the regular season finale (VCU, tied 1-1 in double overtime). The Flyers defeated Saint Joseph's 2-1 in overtime Thursday night; they defeated VCU 3-0 Friday night, and La Salle 2-1 Sunday afternoon.

Virginia Tech, a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference, earned an at-large bid. The Flyers and Hokies have faced off two other times in the NCAA Tournament. Dayton won the last meeting, 3-0 over Virginia Tech, on Nov. 12, 2010 in the NCAA First Round hosted by Ohio State. Virginia Tech defeated UD 3-1 in the NCAA Second Round on Nov. 15, 2009 at the University of Dayton. The Flyers lead the overall series 9-1-0.

Thirty-one conferences were granted automatic bids for the 2014 championship, while the remaining 33 teams were selected at-large. The top 16 teams are seeded and conference teams cannot play each other in the first- or second-rounds. When pairing teams, the committee follows geographic proximity parameters. The top 16 teams will host and all other sites were selected for the first-round to create the least number of flights.

First-round games will be played at campus sites November 14, 15 and 16. Second-round games will be played Friday, November 21, at campus sites, and third-round games will be played Sunday, November 23, at the same campus sites. Quarterfinal games will be played November 28 or 29 also on campus sites.

The 33rd annual NCAA Women's College Cup will be played December 5 and December 7 at FAU Stadium in Boca Raton, Florida, with Florida Atlantic University and the Palm Beach County Sports Commission serving as co-hosts. The first national semifinal will be played and shown live on ESPNU at 5 p.m. Eastern time Friday, December 5. The second semifinal will begin at approximately 7:30 p.m. Eastern time live on ESPNU. The national championship match will take place at 1 p.m. Eastern time on Sunday, December 7 and will also broadcast live on ESPNU.
